Your post is very difficult to understand. You need to use spell check. From what I could actually understand you must have gotten into a lease deal with CRST Malone? If so, taking 25% is pretty much standard for carriers to take from the rate whether you are an owner operator or lease operator. You should have known that when you read over the contract. You did read the contract, didn't you? I am sure that the maintenance account and all deductions were also listed on any contract that you signed? Did you actually expect CRST Malone or any carrier to pay your fuel bill for you? Surely, you can't be serious. When you lease to a carrier they pay your liability and cargo insurance, pay for all the safety and compliance costs, dispatch people and all other costs of running their business. It costs money to hire people to find loads and do billing, safety, etc., They deserve a part of the line haul to cover expenses and have a fair profit. If their CSA score is bad then you can blame the drivers, lease operators and owner operators who run for them. That is also something you should have checked before signing a contract with them. As far as trailer maintenance, I leased a couple of trucks to CRST Malone for several years. When I first went with them I did rent one of their trailers until I could find one that I wanted to buy. It was well maintained. I have never heard of any issues with trailer maintenance from anyone who rented one of their trailers. It is the responsibility of the one who is renting the trailer to make sure everything is in good shape. If not, you have places where you can take the trailer for repairs. You can't blame the company for your failure to stay on top of maintenance. It was NEVER an issue while I rented one of their trailers. I did well when I leased to them. They also have a training program for teaching new people how to properly secure their load. It is part of orientation. After orientation, you are given a book that has line drawings of how to properly secure a load. Not all flat bed carriers will give you a book with the line drawings to help you after you leave orientation.
I had a minimum for which I would haul a load when I was with them. I knew up front what a load paid before I agreed to take it. Just because a load is offered doesn't necessarily mean that you are required to take it. I would only take loads that met my minimum and that had enough left after expenses to have a profit.
Not everyone should be in business for themselves. Perhaps you would be much happier as a company driver and let someone else worry about all the costs and headaches of running the business.tucker and Sneakerfix Thank this. -
Whose CSA score is 100 plus? Is it their's or yours?
americanmadetrucker Thanks this. -
Crst expedited has a 94 rating on unsafe driving!..

Sounds like ol' Crusty needs to start spending money and get better drivers.
-
Cheap maintenance and cheap drivers equals higher profits! Right?
-
I am not sure if he was talking about Expedited, or Malone.

The way I understand CSA, a score over 100 in one of those BASIC categories for a carrier is strictly impossible. Since the BASIC scores are just relative rankings of the carriers within a given size group transformed into percentages, having a score in excess of 100% cannot happen. I read the SMS Methodology Document hosted on fmcsa.dot.gov, but I'm not going to say that I understood it fully.
Can someone please tell me if I'm right about this? Is it possible for a carrier to have a score over 100 in one of those BASICs? -
They can not have a score over 100. 100 is the worst company in that group.
