    Scape07 .,,,

Thank you for that Nudge to think about investing Funds into other types of accounts other then a Savings account that draws 1% or less on your money,.,,

for sure i will open a ...Roth IRA .. Maybe even more then one ,, will see, but on that note, for Investing, my brother has just told me about a program you can put your money into that is guaranteed NOT ,,, to loose money , he said the fund has a range, you will not gain more then 13% and you will never earn less then 1 % ...

so if the market jumps up 15% in a year ,, you will only gain 13% and if the market drops - 25% you will :::: EARN :::: 1 %

Sounds good to a point but it will all depend on the Individual and his/her Risk Factor .

Another Thought ,,, i have is i am very good with my hands and can do most anything to a house ,, if the market is still tanked and there are homes out there at these awesome rates in say 3 - 5 years from now , i would not mind buying a fixer upper and rehabbing it then rent it out , then possibly do it again ,,, the thought of having income coming in every month from a few rentals gets my blood pumping ,, as long as you can get the house cheap enough and the rents in the area are well above your mortgage and you don't fix it up like you are going to spend the rest of your life there LOL meaning don't put more into it then you need to ,, and you can get $500- $800 a month above your mortgage and into your pocket is a great way to add to your monthly Retirement Income. :Straight road:

A couple of things for you:

    1. You can open as many Roth IRA's as you like but can only contribute 5,000 per year, per individual. The exception would be if you are older (55 and up I believe) and you can contribute a bit more. In other words, it doesn't make much sense to have more than one unless you are married and your spouse has one as well.

    2. I would take what your brother says with a grain of salt. Investments will lose value no matter what (unless you get into treasuries but you won't make money on those). That 11% figure is an average I gave, some days I lose money and others I make money.

I do know some folks who have a great rental business running and make good money from it. They also spend a ton of time working on their properties and running the business. I would lose my patience with dead beats and people who destroy my property so I could never do it :biggrin_25510:

If you are really interested, check out Dave Ramsey or Suze Orman for the basics. I actually spend a lot of time on these forums but am not a member: http://www.savingadvice.com/forums/

    Scape07,,,

Thanks for that update ,, for some reason i was under the impression that one Individual could have more than one Roth IRA , and Donate up to 5000.00 in each one ,, Hmmmm very interesting ,,

The account my Brother is talking about is not an investment as in Roth or Mutual funds, or stocks ,,
he is working with a Life Insurance Company and i am not sure of all the details but this is a savings option they offer as a Life Insurance , and i think there is some other Insurance bundled together, this is how they are able to offer this type of investment .

The rental Idea is really not something i worry about since i enjoy working on yards and fixing things plus i have a Rental now with a management company taking care of the entire deal and they charge me 60.00 a month so far so good going on 2 years and not a peep and the rent checks are in my mailbox by the 3 rd of each month ,,,, Knock's On Wood !! ! ,,,,, the problem is i paid way to much for it in 08 when the market took a cr..p .. i remodeled the entire house so its a real gem , i can see why any renter would love to live there .. i was going to try and flip the house but just my luck the world falls apart and i end up having to rent it and taking a loss each month of a few 100 bucks the only thing i can say positive about it is the tax right off .

I love Dave Ramsey !! ! but Suze Orman can Kiss My &%^%#$$#%^*$* i use to think she was great also until she came out with that bank credit card Scam ,, she is like most of the rest of the people that start making it rich and loose touch and only think about making more and more ,,, just my thoughts not trying to discredit anyone . :biggrin_25514:

Up Early today ,, getting excited June is coming up soon and i will start training .

I really want to make sure i stay Focus on my goal's .

For the most part it should go about how i have it thought out unless the unexpected pops up,
my biggest thoughts are food and little tid bits of pleasure comfort foods that can really take a bite out of my weekly bottom line ,, say coke and ice ,, i love it cant get enough of it , but i only drink one or 2 cans a week because i know its really bad stuff to drink everyday all day it will be a challenge for me to not want to sip on coke and M&M's all day while driving,

Also i am not a big eater so i have that going for me ,, i can eat breakfast and not eat all day until late in the afternoon so once i get my food fuel in me i should be good to go for a long while.
I was thinking about bringing my bike along for exercise and a easier way to get around town say to shop for a few items or just grab a coffee, i would like to hear about any of you that have a little program you may use to stay fit or just to keep the body limber . :Straight road:

    Dave Ramsey disciple huh?

The biggest thing with food is eating, then going to sleep. It's one of the worst things you can do. It's taken me awhile to get used to eating on the road. I got into the habit of eating TS food, and it started making me feel like ####. I got a fridge, started eating healthier stuff out of the truck, and it had paid off as far as health, and money saved. I used to hate drinking water, now, its almost all I drink besides coffee. Before, I'd have to have a coke to quench my thirst while eating a meal.

It's easy to get into a rush, and not want to stop to fix your food, so you grab pizza, or something fried from the TS while fueling. In the end, it didn't save much time, and you wasted money on overpriced, garbage food.

    Thank you Ex-Con-Trucker ...

I know what you mean by drinking water, once you get use to having ice cold water its just as bad as wanting coke all the time you have to have that cold!! drink ,,

I guess the deal is taking the time to Setup the truck to work best for you so its easier to use the truck for a meal then getting out and going into a place that has Cr--p for food but is quick and tasty .

I would have to have something ,, talking about food ,, that is good and filling at the start of my main trip Because like i said before i am good with one meal a day and maybe a little snack before bedtime works best for me .

I also love to cook ,, not that i am a Chef but in the last few years i have really started getting into Cooking ,the hard part would be to use it up before it go's bad in the fridge or pantry ,, i would guess you have to shop a few times a week not buy to much but enough to last a few days and still be fresh.

My plan is to get as much exercise as possible during my down time so that I can eat bad every now and then. I personally love pizza and ice cream and other bad foods but I also get enough cardio exercise to keep the weight off and only eat those foods every other week or so. Plus I figure it will give me more energy as well to stay active.

Yep same here...we are living in the truck too. We have a place paid for in AZ...but we just like being out roaming around. We are gonna be socking the max amount into retirement when his first year is up AND socking as much as we can in the bank. We cook in the truck...search cooking and you will find some awesome threads on that.

    Good luck with everything...

Hey I-80, once you are out on the road (or you could even start now) get your fuel bonus cards from all the different truck stops and when you stop for fuel you get points. This allows you to shower for free and eat and drink for free too! You can use your points to get your free coke and ice everyday. Your points really add up fast so don't be afraid to use them.

As for the exercise, your imagination is your limit! I use to make my whole truck a gym and found all different things I could do for exercise that incorporated my truck. You mentioned your bike, take it with you! Just strap it to your catwalk and you will have it with you all the time. Jump rope is another thing you can bring that doesn't take up any space and is really good for you. I had those Bowflex-Selecttech dumbells and they were awesome! Pricey but worth every single little penny I paid for them! Each dumbell weighed like 60lbs and you could adjust them all the way down to two pounds. I had a little fold up bench that I used with them and kept that on my catwalk with a bungee. Sit on the bottom step of your truck, tie your bungees to the top step, one on either side of you, and now you have a crunch machine!

A nice little thing to have on the truck as far as eating healthy and making it enjoyable, is a little propane George Foreman Grill. They make a travel one it is the greatest! We used it all the time and had many killer picnics! The downside is fending off all the other starving drivers that smell your steaks cooking from across the parking lot!

I am trying to convince my husband to do this because they have some nice sleepers out there but once he looked at me and the kids as added weight, I said forget it.
