Hey all, I recently graduated from trucking school and received pre hires from Werner and Swift. Which is the better of the two companies to work for for a brand new truck driver?

Swift by far, is way better than werner. I havent worked for werner but have swift, they are a very good company have plenty of loads or when i worked there they did. I had a friend worked for werner he never ran more than 1200 miles a week! He quit after 8 months working for them. Swift dispatchers are pretty good and usually treat you with respect but there are a few who you wanna strangle, haha. Good luck!:biggrin_25525:

Thank you for the input. Ive been reading this a lot on these boards that Werner drivers aren't getting the miles. Anyone else care to weigh in?

If I had worked for Werner, I could make a fair comparison. I've only worked for Swift and, next month, will start my 6th year in. And if I have to drive a truck until I retire, I'll retire with these guys. I'm completely happy. But like I said, I can't Swift is better because I've not worked for the other. I doubt you'll really get a fair response here on this topic.

    Depends on

    how good your trainer is
how good your equipment is (and it varies)
how good your driver manager/dispatcher/whateveryoucallthem is/are
    which terminal you're out of

What I'm saying is there are so many variables not only from company to company, but within a given company. And it will come down to what you can DRAW out of it (think about that).

I've never worked for either company. There are happy campers at both. There are horror stories from all of 'em. You have to get your list of twenty questions together, get the answers, and make your choice.

I, too, think there are better choices. But there are worse as well.

    I wish you the best.

I would pick Swift...of the two.
Well, I would pick Schneider...because that's who I picked and I don't regret it ..BUT
Given a choice between Swift and Werner?
    Swift...
They have tons of Walmart business and Walmart does enough business to keep a lot of trucks very busy.

You should add a "none of the above" choice.

none of the above doesnt pay the bills. I applied to plenty of other places like McElroy, Maverick, and TMC. Got turned down from those because I have been on unemployment for two years. Thats why I went and got my CDL to begin with, doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me but anyways. I have to take what is available to me.
