in a custom $100,000 vehicle, and pick where they want to go, and get paid to do it.
Sad thing is MANY think thats the way it is for EVERYONE driving a truck , then reality sets in ( go where you are told to go , paid very little and get a old worn out truck ) and theyrealize its not the JOB they wanted or like doing.

Duckdiver:
I am sorry that you and your Beverly Hills Country Club Friends think the way you do. I guess you grew up in the land of milk and honey.
There is absolutely no reason for you or anyone to feel like this is a bottom of the barrel career because it is not.
If everyone could do this job, they would be doing it. The funniest thing about those who look down upon being a trucker as they are what society calls Elitest is that there are over the road truckers who used to be Lawyers and Doctors, some with a Harvard Degree no less, who left those careers to do this.
What those who think this is a terrible career never realize is that if it were not for trucks, they wouldn't have the luxuries or assets they have.
Trucks deliver food, raw materials to make goods and products, trucks deliver things to rail yards to be put onto trains and yes, even deliver the 53 foot boxes we haul down the road get loaded on freight trains.
Trucking has been around since before modern time, so while you feel embarrassed, there's thousands who don't.
If you feel the way you do, why not save face and try another career choice, one where you don't have to lie to anyone about what you do. Perhaps if you tried telling the truth for once about what you do, perhaps you may find that those who you think will look down at you, may actually say, cool job dude, I thought about doing that for a career.
Here's a idea since you like lying about what you do or contemplate lying, why don't you say your a recruiter for a trucking company that way you don't have to feel like your a liar.
Tell these girls your after that you screw every young person honestly looking for a career by telling them a line of BS for a living. -
I think everyone else covered all of this.
Most people I meet are interested in what all we as drivers go thru. Very interested.
I'd suggest that these "women" that are interested until you stat your profession are only lookng for the guy with the highest income.
I got into this as I've always liked driving and going different places. While it's much more of a challenge now with the fuel cost. Don't care if they want "black boxes" in the truck. I won't be the one payin' for it though. -
I'm so embarrassed to be a truck driver.....
I get a great paycheck and get laid 3 time a week by the most beautiful woman in the world, my wife.
allniter Thanks this. -
Some girls don't like boys like me,
Oh, but some girls do.
And out of respect for the one who cares enough for me to let me take out my needs upon her - it's none of your business. -

and then reality set in

If the women that you tell you are a driver seem to loose interest in you after you tell them that you are a trucker driver, well my advice to you is find a better class of women to hang with...someone who isn't quite as shallow and uninformed. While you're at it ask them 1 question and tell them to give their answer some thought first. Ask them if they can think of anything that they come into contact with in their everyday living anything at all from A to Z except for the air that they breathe..ask them where it or the raw materials to make it comes from. Because that is exactly the case.....Nothing and I mean NOTHING that you use , from the water that you drink , the pipes that the water flows through ,the food you eat , to the cars you drive , to the medicine that you take , the place that you live , the clothes that you wear ,the wire and cable and the poles to hang it on plus the metal and wood for each of them that provide the electricity.....all of this stuff was on a truck somewhere...sometime...EMBARRASSED to be a truck driver ...I should say NOT...If it wasn't for us the entire world would grind to a halt...think about it.........

Well I told a lady I was a trucker, just so happens she was a trucker too, that was 15 years ago and you know what I am still a trucker , she is still and trucker, and unless I am mistaken we are very happy, together and to be truckers. If I had to do it all over well, cant honestly say I would change anything.
CertifiedSweetie and T...Street Thank this.
