From an O/O perspective that pays and has his own policy:

This is true. However, if you have a DECENT insurance company you can have them add your wife to the policy. As long as the company knows she rides in the rig (once in awhile) there is no risk of anything not being covered. My policy explicitly prohibits passengers that are not company CDL holders. My wife might get her CDL someday but thats down the road, literally.

Progressive doesn't care if you pick up a hobo. Of course a scale house might not approve....

I have a signed form I leave in the rig that gives me permission to have my wife as a passenger in my vehicle that I own when running for my company that I own. It's messed up but safer this way.

My wife is going with me Monday to drop a load I brought home, the company sent me a little paperwork and i had to pay for the insurance for her to ride with me, it was 15 for the day, but I think that is acutally a monthly rate, not sure.

    Lots to be considered.

I remember when I worked at a paper company, a load came in with a driver and his wife and seven chihuahuas!!!! A mom and dad, and five puppies! Everyone was very happy. LOL

Then the thing is how to get authorized. I suppose a driver could be denied accepting certain loads where security is higher.

All you should need is written permission from the owner of the truck to have a passenger. Make sure they have their ID with them...

Every carrier I know of requires paying for extra insurance mentioned earlier to get permission . Some may require background checks .
My carrier keeps changing conditions . For a while they required passengers to have hazmat certification . Have a pet is prohibited .
