Just make sure you warn him about this new push for teaming I'm seeing in some of the dry-van outfits like Covenant. Teaming is not for everyone, myself included.

There's always concrete Ready-Mix trucks. He can drive the class B, and be on standby when the bulk driver calls in sick, then move up when there's an opening.

Also, I heard that Carolina Carriers will hire anyone that's warm and breathing.

How about getting in with ups Conway etc... starting on the docks and moving up when all is clear.

Windy Hill wouldn't take him? One of my classmates I graduated with from Ridge got on with Squire. Squire is Knight's training branch. That guy had TWO fairly recent suspensions. I was shocked anyone would touch him but Squire did.

No Windy Hill denied him. Told him to come back in December 2014! He's been having a hell of a time! He has really been firing out apps too! I'll see if he tried Knight and will also look into Carolina Carriers.

    Thanks guys!

    Just throwin this out there.
I was in a similar situation just graduating CDL school and nobody would touch me (mega carriers, that is) with this DUI till it clears the 5 yr mark, in December.
I was starting to get worried thinking I'd have to find something else till then and have to do a refresher or something also. Which, would stink.

SO, I got on with a local company here in the LeHigh Valley in PA hauling Bulk Cement, right outta school. I can't offer ANY help as far as relocating but if he can pass the road test for the company (not hard, if you paid attention in school and not a dufass) he can get on where I'm at, probably.

PM me if it's an option for your friend and I'll give you the place I work for, in confidentiality. I don't want to put it out on forums.

    good luck

Thanks Madmax! Unfortunately he really has his feet dug in here in Florida. We do have similar companies down here but the pay rate is nowhere near what it is north! Maybe $15 max running a concrete truck down here! Too many people down here willing to work for nothing and the cost of living is much less then PA.

He is currently working for a plumbing supply co. driving a box truck for $10hr until he can get on with someone who will take him over the road.

Thanks again to all for the good suggestions!

Maybe he should have planned ahead. Going into trucking I have already learned, you need to anticipate everything!

Sometimes you have to just go for it and keep moving forward even Knowing your chances are low because of the past, its better to try then to Procrastinate and do nothing ,,

I hope it works out for him and if he is Driven like it sounds as if he is i think he will be fine ,, and He has chompi on his side so he is already off to a good start !! :biggrin_25525:

Yeah, it's that cost of living thing that always bites ya in the butt. Up here in PA, $15/hr. ain't nuttin to sneeze at. But FL is way more expensive to live in than PA, so I can see where $15/hr wouldn't be enough to justify the work. Heck, I'm not sure $15/hr would cover all the taxes and still leave enough for a "big night" out at McDonald's!

    I-80Trucker and chompi Thank this.
