One of our drivers got written up at the new TN scal on i-65 for not having all metal valve stem caps. 2 were plastic. I never know this was a law?:biggrin_25510:

The theory is if you get a hot wheel and the valve core seal melts, then the metal cap will stop the tire from going flat. Where the plastic cap would probably melt also. Ohio has been doing that for quite a while.

If they did a DOT inspection, the violation number at the left is usually the regulation number in the FMCSR's.

I did a quick search and I could not find anything in the regs about valve stem caps at all.

I've never seen one either and I do keep up with the Federal regs. Keeps me out of trouble, most of the time!

I've been all over the regulations and couldn't find anything related to the tire valves. Sounds like a truckers tale.

Probably that young redheaded newer guy working up there. He told me to pull around back one night. My log book was a few entries behind. He come running out there while I caught it up. He jumped on my step trying to get in my locked door. "What you doing"?

I was on the last entry. "Ain't we suppose to log change of duty status as it happens"? Lol, he was green as they come.
