Lies. So you are telling me you will immediately know how the truck will shift/act before even turning the key? Doubt it.

Your lack of experience is showing. Don't under estimate some old crusty trucker. I did once. But that's another story.

I will second that... only time I had a hard time shifting a truck is because a new driver messed the trans up..

If your a experienced driver you should know how the truck shifts by the time you get to 2nd gear....

Seems like every truck I get into is a little different. Brand new trucks are all about the same but if it's a truck someone else has been driving for awhile I'll use the clutch until I get the feel of the transmission.

I'd rather screw up a clutch plate then the trany.

While they are all different, I haven't double clutched since driving school. It only takes me a few gears to figure it out, you don't force anything, when your at the right rpms you will know it. As far as downshifting, If I miss it at first I just tap the accelerator again. You retap and take notice of when it will fall in, then your good to go.

Exactly! I doubled in Class and then I have not done so since!. I hate to double clutch but if I have to I will.

I doubt clutch. I personally feel that I'm just better at double clutching than I am floating. I just can't float for some reason. I feel like I'm harder on a truck if I'm floating so I just stick to what I know. I'm just a lot smoother at double clutching.

Exactly... You don't know how the truck will shift until you get it in gear and go. Sure, all trucks shift similar but all of them have small differences. Like the truck I'm in now slides into gear much easier (other then 4th/9th) then any of the other trucks I've been in for this company. It also has more power to hold the gear better when climbing the lovely Pennsylvania terrain.

I don't care if you are experienced or not, we are all out here to do one thing and that is to make money. Okiedokie, I'm not one of those "new guys" that thinks they know everything. If a driver offers to help and give me pointers I always accept whether or not I "think" I know how to do it or not. Like I was getting my chains all setup at a truck stop and a driver offered to help show how to put them on. I knew the basics of it but accepted and was shown a couple good short cuts. With that being said, I don't care who they are, how old they are, how long they've been driving, but if an old crusty driver is a dick I'll act like one too.

No one said before you turn the key.........oh wait you did. A seasoned driver can adapt quickly to almost any situation or truck. That comes from experience. Nuff said.

And I agree with you 100% :). Any driver (with enough knowledge) should be able to hop into any truck and go without any problems before leaving the yard the truck is parked in.
