NOT to derail this response, but I have not gotten back to your pm due to being busy.....

Afrin caused a C.N.S. intra-sitial ion-transport condition for me that had me hyper-excitable for decades, persons around me experienced a "scratchy" feeling - I have seen one other person who had the condition, which is documented in the extant literature ~ tends to make one distracted thus, whatever op is about, I do not care what is legal, what matters is what happens

in general chems are deleterious and one should go for a health-nut approach

The Libertarian in me believes all drugs should be legal. Our jails are filled with people who have done nothing more than acquire a bad habit. That said, a couple of things wrong with this quoted post.

At present, Alcohol and Tobacco are legal, marijuana is not. You state you have never "done" it because you have been scared to get arrested. Why would you get arrested? Because it is illegal.

You are trying to crucify a driver for his belief that one should not engage in an illegal activity and drive.

Until our government comes to its senses and legalizes it, it will remain illegal. Until such time as it is legalized companies will continue to test for it and a positive test will disqualify one from driving. In short, You, the OP, and everyone of the rest of us needs to make a choice, CDL or Pot... it is that simple. What one does at home is their business, conversely, who a company employs is theirs and the standards and policies they set are terms of employment. If one wishes to continue in that relationship, one abides by those policies, if not one is free to sever that relationship and move on to other things.

Gisquid pretty much said as much.

This is COMPLETELY UNTRUE. There have been PLENTY of well documented deaths attributed to marijuana use.

For anyone who thinks that there have not been accidents with someone on marijuana, you are mistaken. I recall a number of accidents that have been attributed to marijuana use back when it was coming into vogue. These days they usually just report that if someone is in an accident and on drugs that they are impaired. Marijuana does impair your judgement and slows your response time. That is why we don't allow people to smoke it and drive. And for anyone who thinks that you can take other "legal" drugs and drive, that is also not true. There are many legal drugs which are not supposed to be taken if you plan on driving and for the same reasons. I believe there is a list on the fed website. At one time heroine, cocaine, marijuana and a number of other drugs were legal in this country. All of them impair your judgement.

One reason that companies won't hire those who test positive for previous marijuana use is that they figure that if you will do one thing that is illegal that you might be more prone to do other types of drugs that are illegal or commit other crimes that would directly impact the carriers. Most people that I can recall who used to smoke marijuana were more laid back when smoking. It seemed to relax them more than anything. I don't recall any of the people that I knew who smoked marijuana who got aggressive or went out and committed crimes to support their habit. But, it did impair their reflex actions. If you don't think that it slows your reaction time then you are only fooling yourself.

Any drugs that stay in your system is a potential liability for motor carriers. If you are involved in an accident and driving a commercial vehicle you are likely to be tested for drug use. If you test positive, whether impaired at the time or not, it is a huge liability factor for the carrier and their insurance company. All lawyers need is a whiff of drug use and away they go. Whether you are at fault in the accident or not, your drug use will come into play.
The result will most likely be that the carrier and/or insurance company will pay out a lot of money and you will not only lose your job, but the ability to work in this industry, for at least a number of years.

I don't take any drugs, legal or otherwise. About the only thing that I will take is aspirin. All drugs have side effects. If you need to take drugs (legal or otherwise) to relax then you need to find out the root of your problem.

I've seen people that smoke pot and become complete idiots.

I've been told that, other than by my eyes, the person couldn't even tell I was "stoned".

Actually, it effects me mentally more than physically. "We", back in the day, used to smoke and build houses. Yup. Burn one and go walk a 2x4 "top plate" setting ceiling joists or any other number of tasks like putting lathing strips on pole barns for metal roofing. Never had an accident. Never hurt anyone.

The way it effects me is that I used to have too many trains and not enough tracks. Now that I'm older it's easier for me to concentrate. I made the choice long ago what I wanted to keep in my life. Not incarcerated, jobs, family. I let the weed go.

    *ETA*
I FOUND the source of my problems hehe
Life, GOV. Job, family, friends, everything heh
Guess I'm one of those kind that think too much, over analyze everything and let lots of stuff get to me.

I was rear ended by a 4 wheeler when I was slowing to make a turn, I had my signal on as well. The occupant of the 4 wheeler was on the cell phone and failed to see my brake lights and turn signal. By the time the 4 wheeler did notice it was too late, apparent by the 260 feet of skid marks left prior to the 4 wheeler slamming into the rear of my trailer. Luckily no one was injured. To my point, I wasn't cited nor was I given a drug test. But I don't use any drugs at all and I too commend you for coming forth with such a question and publicly stating that you use mj. It's just not worth your freedom and career to use any illegal substance while employed. I know most of us think well I'm never going to be involved in an accident or anything but ##### happens !!!

I think one day I'll be in one. I also think that I will probably NOT be "at fault". But I realize it's BOUND to happen. And I'm just thankful for every day that it doesn't. God save us.

does anyone have any business driving a truck while high, NO!'
Do they have a test to tell if your high at the time, yes, saliva tests will show only recent use. 2-3 days or less.

I have said it before and I will say it again, the only reason marijuana is illegal is because the government does not know how to control it. How do you control and tax something that anyone can grow large quantities of it in a space as small as 10x10. a 10x10 area can produce $100k to $200k every 3 months.
Many countries have proven its medical value, The US government won't even read those studies. Again, it's because they don't know how to tax a "weed" that can grow anywhere with little or no assistance from those growing it. The benefits far outweigh the negatives.
It's all about money, and the money big pharma pumps into their pockets everyday, keeps it illegal.

The US spends over $22billion every year to house non violent marijuana users in prison. just goes to show how stupid our government is when it comes to non violent crimes.
