I used to talk to a few guys at J-mar...they seemed really content there. Sad what happened to Julian Martin....

Funny thing is, every company that I really enjoyed working for, has gone out of business. I was one of the J-Mar drivers that was very happy working there. That's the first company I was a trainer for. Great people and I was always running to the west coast, definitley my preference. Also loved R&D, they paid us .35 a mile for all miles back in the day when most company's were paying .27 or .28 and less for empty miles. They also had great equipment. Seemed too good to be true and it turned out it was. Again it's a shame, as they were pretty good people too. Southland was another, small family owned company that had 379 Pete's and gave you your choice of loads going out. They paid decent and treated me great, both the owner and his son were very down to earth people. Amazing how much better a job can be when you enjoy working for the people that own the company.

Guess I'm hoping to have that same personal feel at Calex. They seem like they treat their drivers well. They have good equipment, plenty of miles and pay decent. Never thought I'd pull a reefer again, last time was 1995, but this sounds like the exception. Sounds like they have a good thing going here.

Edit: By the way there were two J-Mar's. One was owned by Mark Martins father and the other was owned by the Fuller family. I worked for the later.

That seems to be the norm for JohnBoy.

I dont know if it works out that way for everyone, but I believe thats the goal. Out and back, then home for a few.

well Roadcall hopefully u will have better luck with Calex, hopefully ur not a hex for them. I started with Werner if that says anything, then I was driving for a smaller company from Rochester, NY who didn't care anything about ur log books. So its nice to have elogs again.

Hi, I'm new to the boards. Ca you guys tell me if Calex would be good for someone in the Gaffney, SC area. Would I get weekly hometime? Is this a good area for freight for Calex? I've read through the thread and this seems like a good company. Any help would be appreciated. Cowman, you are new to Calex, how do u like it? Are you home weekly or do you stay out till they let ya go home? Thanks for any replies or help.

BFL- Calex is great compared to the last company I was with. I would rather be running legal with the elogs. From s Carolina u should have no problem getting hometime, I know they have been doing a good bit of hiring out of N and S Carolina. Last weekend was my 1st so I asked to stay out and they kept my request, granted I still had time to get my restart. This weekend I got a pu 20 miles from home on Friday and was home by 3pm, and don't deliver till Tues cause of the holiday. Baddbudd-1 out of 3 of their names was Trans Technology inc. The owner and most of the drivers were from Ukraine

Thanks for the reply cowman. I know I see there trucks dow this way quite a bit. Nice looking equipment and from what this thread says, it seems like a really good job. Do you know if SC would be OTR for them or regional? I dont mind running but regular hometime is as important as good miles. They seem to have both there. Thanks again for the reply and I'm goona read through here some more.
