is it a single or twin turbo? pretty sure the C15s were single and ACERts were twin but not 100%, (you want the single) Just go through the basics and IMO I would spend the few hundred bucks to put it on a dyno and make sure its making right power, oil analaysis, and PM records etc. how many miles?

it has 850,000 miles on it i just inquired to the dealer over in wisconsin time to get rid of my 94.not sure about the turbos , thru out my research i'm seeing i should stay away from the twin turbo. dealer sez it passed dyno and yes i'll get that oil anylized i'm a firm believer in that, early detections a must .never had a cat just needed info b4 buying

truck in my sig has a 3406E, no one likes driving it because with 435 HP and 100,000 lbs "it has no power" but thing has allways started and went to work, plus I dont get people beating on my assigned truck. coming up on 800k and theres never been a wrench on the motor.

Well if the oil comes back good that's a plus but an engine that hasn't been overhauled and has 850,000 miles on it well that's a gamble in my opinion

2006 is a twin turbo acert engine most likely. Cat went with the twin turbo so they wouldn't have to put a traditional egr valve in. In stock form they are OK, but there are a lot of things you can do to improve performance. My 2005 was at 725 hp after a few tweaks.

I just went & looked at a truck with a 06 Acert, there was also a ISX on the lot. It was a fleet ride that mechanically looked OK from the outside, but you could tell the co. driver(s) in it were pretty rough on it. Anyway, called a performance shop asking about which direction to go in terms of "fixing" these EPA motors from that time frame. Cummins was three times as expensive from the same shop.

CAT has these motors rated to be million mile motors, BUT if it has not been touched yet, I would think any brand of EPA plugged up motor at 850,000 would be close to needing a in-frame.

I drove a GVW 105,500 Truck/Pup w/ a C-15 Acert 525HP CAT behind an 18 sp. They were single turbo engines. Now the Acert C-16 CAT was a twin turbo. They sounded different when power off to shift, had a sucking sound from the turbos. 850,000 miles the engine is ready to be overhauled. Never had any trouble with that motor and it could pull a 6% grade at 35 mph loaded.
