Just got my employment verified today and should be on the bus from Modesto, Ca to Missoula, Mt this weekend.
I am 49, and this will be my first trucking job.
I hear they are a great company, and I am looking forward to W/S boot camp.
Any advise on what I should bring with me?
Anybody else on here scheduled for orientation then?
W/S newbie. Off to Montana 6/11/12

best of luck to you!.....WS are a good starter company, just remember to let them work for you, and not the other way around! be proactive and you will make good "newbie money"

Congratulations driver, Practice, Practice, and Practice some more!! DID I SAY PRACTICE IN THOSE TRUCKS they have there, Remember it is a 10 day interview, you don't have a job till you fill out the I-9 and get your truck assignment, Pay Close attention to everything they tell you(follow directions to the T), I would not suggest taking the car down to Hooters and getting loaded up and then trying to drive back, there was a guy in the group ahead of me,
that did that and he stayed a night in the clink and then when he was released there were some guys really mad because he got the car impounded and they couldn't get to town, Besides when he got back they told him to pack his stuff he had a bus ticket waiting for him when he got to the bus station!. Also help those less fortunate then you that may be having troubles, Hold the doors for the other drivers around, talk to all the drivers that you can, Leave the negative ones alone and make sure you don't get that stuff on you(negative juice) it is very contagious and spills out all over the place!! Stay positive, Stay out of trouble!! The Gal at the end of the hall by the door going out to the lots, Is really nice say hi to her when you can, the guy next to her is the director of safety and he basically pulls the strings there... So much more I can say but I can't think of it now! Learn to chain up and do it fast, keep your tools close by because they do get lost in 6-8" inches of snow.... Just saying...

jet460, 2021DREAM, spunkymonkey and 1 other person Thank this. -
I know about the "10 days and out" training.
I'm up for it.
As long as they are honest with me and don't send me to places I am not ready for(Manhattan), it'll be fine.
I have been out of work for years, so any paycheck will be a good one...for a while. -
Practice is what I will need lots of.
I just completed CDL school today.
All I know is a simple alley dock using cones and markers, and how to shift an old grinding 10 speed.
The trucks we trained on had 1,400,000 miles on them and were beat to death.
Hopefully I will get some instruction on real world backing, and how to NOT get into trouble.
Booze and dope do not touch me, so I am good there.
The only concern I have in the fact that I have to sleep with a CPAP machine.
I hope that does not cause an issue with the company, or a roomie.
Speaking of such...is it dorm living or motel? -
You'll share a room with someone in the dorm at the terminal. They are aware of the CPAP Machine....right?
