In some peoples eyes, yes it does... did not bother me, as I knew I would not be there long.

And at that time, for OR2, it was over to a days inn, still old, but it was clean, and the towels were new.

I didn't read any whining. I think the basic problem is that you have a low opinion of the trucking profession and those who chose to be truck drivers. Why not Starbucks or gourmet meals? There is nothing wrong with wanting the finer things in life as long as you are willing to pay for them. Trucking is a fine profession. I bet you lower your head a little when someone asks you what you do for a living. Stand tall and be proud.

I am proud to be a trucker!! Everyone that I am associated with knows what I do and I just as proudly tell anyone that asks me what I do. I can give you a list of peope that work for Stevens that would be glad to back me up as well!! The whining about the meals has to do with the FREE (as in no cost to them) meals that are provided to the new hires during orientation and the FREE breakfast (cereal, doughnuts, etc) that is provided by the hotels. My husband and I also enjoy nice meals when we are on time off, and have even made notes of some of the nicer restaurants near truck stops, such as the Outback, in Union Gap, WA. AND, as for the coffee, I've heard plenty of complaints while getting my hubby's coffee at the truck stop and while making coffee in the breakroom on the yard. (I don't even drink coffee, but if I happen to be in the breakroom, I make sure the pots stay full. And not by simply pouring more water over the existing grounds as I have seen done many, many times, LOL)

So exactly 3 weeks later I have my CDL in hand... or at least my temporary paper one. Passed all 5 written test on the first try, passed road test this morning on the first try. Will graduate Friday and look to head out with a trainer on Saturday.

Congratulations. Now take all that book learning, set it aside, observe and listen. You will learn much more that way. Trainers hate know it all students.

Not my first rodeo there cowboy... It's more a matter of shaking off rust, but, in direct response to your comment, thank you for the congratulations and I am well aware of how to get through the next phase. If anything getting through everything as I did should indicate that rather than being a know "it all student", I am full capable of learning what i am taught in a expeditious manner.

There have been some changes in the industry since I last drove such as the shifting ranges being much lower, and the trailers being a bit longer, the hours of service etc... So there is much to learn, yet the principles of things like backing and cornering and such has not changed.

I'll will guarantee one thing, if I do not finish the 5 weeks with the trainer I started with it will not be because of anything I say, do or fail to do. While I am a confident guy, I am also one of the easiest to get along with people you will meet.

One of the trainers here, for example, was giving bad information on the cost of passports. I know what they cost, I just had mine issued in April, I can pull up the checks on line, So the instructor was way over quoting and I raised my hand, I told him what I had just paid for the pass port and card. He told me that was because I was from a different State than Texas. I said the checks were made to the State Dept, and the Post Office, the State had nothing to do with it. HE then in formed me in no uncertain terms that he dealt with this every week and he knew what he was talking about. I said OK, and let it go. Now I am 100% correct on my costs, and can go to the State Dept web site, but what would be the point? To antagonize the guy that has a huge bearing on whether I get trained and hired?

I will not be the student trying to school the teacher, I have been around the block more than once.

Know it all instructors are just as bad. The driving is the easy part for you then. Just learning the current rules and new tech. There are times to press an issue and times to shake your head and walk away. Your example with the passport is a great example.

They provide breakfast at the hotel. It consists of a stale sticky bun or cold cereal...fruit loops or corn flakes last time I checked. coffee and weak juice.
Lunch is provided each day during orientation. Dinner is provided for the days you are there for a night session. Monday and Tuesday nights.
All the meals are filling and bland. They serve such specialties as macaroni surprise, soylent green and spaghetti with meatlike balls.
Seriously, it isn't an epecurian's delight, but it fills the void and it's free.
