Schneider Oil Field Truck Driver Jobs/ The Texas shales and beyond

OK, I'll play.
The 11K per month punching a clock up here in the Bakken is a 30% pay cut compared to what I was making punching a clock in Iraq for 7 years but simillar to what I made punching a clock in Kuwait, Abu Dabi and Indonesia the decade prior to our 2nd trip to Mesopotamia.
I know all about oil, equities, futures, real astate and Asian hookers. I know a little about driving tankers off road. Don't know much else.


Look into Rockport when you get down to S.A.
I've got 22 acres down there and will probably retire on it at some point.

 

We all get it that you and jahb are trying to get referal bonuses so why don't y'all just break down the pay?
It really sounds like a casual job. Just put the meat and bones out there.

 

Personally, I'm answering questions I had about Schneider when I started looking, and comparing to the other jobs I could get even though I had a year of OTR a while back, and had to go back through CDL school and basically start over as a newbie. I wound up going to Schnedier in TX, so I can tell people what it is as I go there and work there, if they are interested. I'm not recruiting anyone, or looking for referrals, just telling the facts I wanted to know, about what I am now about to experience. If it sucks, it's likely I'll say so.

I already have put up the numbers I was offered initially for hauling crude in Victoria, and it's approximately the same for Midland, with a slightly different schedule set up. Fact is, it's not really necessary that I do that, since they tell you on the job listing on their web site what they pay an experienced driver, and if you call the recruiter, they'll tell you what a newbie gets (a little less) for starting out. I haven't asked anyone to list me as a referral, and I don't care if they don't. Doesn't make any difference about what I say here.

kdc1899, no doubt, IF your number of $11000 a month is true, and you're actually pulling down a consistent $2750 a week up in the Bakken, then you're doing better than an experienced (OTR) driver would at Schneider in the Texas oilfields.

So, I don't remember saying no one could make better, just told them what's there. Guess that's gonna make you a non-candidate for Schneider. That's nice for you.

I wondered why she asked me about how I was getting to Dallas.....it's over a thousand miles. That oughta pay. I guess I'd better ask, and keep my receipts!

That, hotel and food for a week in Dallas, and two weeks in Midland, (we're talking about around 21 days at $100 a day not including the food, if you check expedia.com) and a $200 pair of steel-toe boots for $25 at the company store. I actually thought that was kind of funny, but it makes sense, since I'll probably wear mine out in a hurry.

Cheap bastidges. Bet I have to pay for a ball cap. LOL

And just for the record, their program for referrals is $500 per recent graduate, and $1000 per experienced driver, and it's unlimited. A person could make quite a bit referring people. I don't have a problem with that. Don't know why anyone would, unless they figure someone's going to lie to people to get it. I don't see that happening.

I post for the reason I said I did. Getting information to people like me who are looking. No more, no less. If that gets me a little referral cash, that would be ok with me. If not, I don't care, I'm not asking for it. Anyway, there's no reason for anyone to use my name when they can go to the web site and talk to a recruiter all by themselves, get hired, and never mention my name.

So some jagoff can have his happy horse pucky opinion about it, but ain't nobody here lying about nothin.

 

Ok....please tell me if I'm in the Twilight Zone.....am I not being realistic in thinking that I could get a Tanker position in San Antonio and be home everyday? Was told just yesterday by a recruiter @ Schneider that positions were open for San Antonio. Got a callback today from another recruiter that it's now filled. UGH Other places in San Antonio want tanker experience or tanker OTR. I was told positions in Victoria are still open thru Schneider but would have to relocate. It would be nice to be able to stay in San Antonio. Someone told me that I need to stop chasing the money and just do any type of driving to get experience since I'm a newbie. I WANT TO DRIVE TANKER! Why do OTR for weeks at a time, not sleep in my own bed, make less money, and have more frustration (based on what I've read in the forum ) if I don't have to? I may be making this harder than it needs to be...

 

AllieCat, I had the same experience. With 2 weeks left of school, the crude oil tanker jobs were available in Victoria, and was told to call back when I was almost finished with school. A week later, I called back to tell them I was about ready to graduate and was told they had stopped taking students in Victoria. Still needed them in Midland though...I was told that they had enough students in Victoria. I figure one or another thing is happening....

1) It is as they say, and they have X slots for students and quickly fill them, or
2) there is ONE recruiter who won't let anyone else book students into his/her "territory", and once you've dealt with one recruiter, you can't move to the one who "owns" the territory....but that's just stuff I made up.

I don't know why it happened to me, or to you. That's pure speculation of course, but if there's any commission involved, it wouldn't surprise me. I have no idea but it seems timing and steering students to particular accounts may have something to do with it.

Keep after them. Be willing to relocate. It looks like you have a little experience, so....good luck!

 

Hey rockdoctor and Jahb, just catching up. If I could do it SNI would be a great choice. But I need relocation fee's, and they have what they are calling fees but you get it after 30 or 60 days, sounds like a sign on bonus. I was set (and still could be) to hire into Victoria but I told the lady I needed cash to get there, and she said you get it after some time. Too bad, I finally had the wife talked into it. It's just about 30 days until you get a check and I cant go that long with nothing.
I will figure out a way to do this, it's way to good to pass up, may have to go to Midland or Odessa but I will be there soon.
