this is what can happen when a driver is safety conscious. this is real unbelievable. may not have thought it to be true if I did not read it for myself.

I hate the outcome of the case but also hate the way it is reported. This was simply a right to work case and all the real safety issues had nothing to do with the law they tried to use on this. Not saying it is the way it should be but it is what it is and has been that way for decades.
On a positive note, I read another story about that company and they have been dealing with OSHA and FMCSA on safety. -
So... I'm running I80 in PA, 79400 GVW. Needless to say, I'm not exactly blowing up those grades. So, while watching what's going on behind me I got a little surprised by someone passing me on my right - on the shoulder today. A 4-wheeler? Nope! White Volvo pulling a flatbed!! My OnGuard system caught him as he pulled back in at 58 mph. I was pulling that grade a bit below 35.

I guess you don't deliver anything while you're out there on the road? You show a perfect scenario where nothing goes wrong, and all you do is get up, do a PTI, drive, fuel, drive, and put it to bed. Where is the time figured in for local/regional drivers who bump docks a couple/few times a day? How about a meal stop? A delay or two at a shipper/receiver and your trip planning goes right out the window.rollin coal, Everett, snowblind and 2 others Thank this.

I do plenty of pickup and delivery, with a flat, but not usually everyday, as I seldom run loads that short. 11 hours is what I am allowed to drive, not what I am required to drive.
Did some local/regional work, between O/O gigs and never did get close on my driving hours for a day. Got close to my on-duty hours, almost every day, but not my driving hours.
Yep, plans often go out the window, that is a fact. However, if I feel that I need a nap, I am going to take one as I control what I am going to do during those hours available. The hours available are not going to control what I do during them.fireba11 Thanks this. -
My ex teammate used to drive thru there all the time ... I even called safety on him once for another very serious incident I won't mention (one of the hardest things I've had to do), all the safety guy said was 'he should've listened to you' and that in so many words they would get him straight, needless to say he's still out here driving...

No matter what the courts decided. He felt the load was unsafe and refused to haul it. Good for him! NO driver should EVER haul a load they consider unsafe. Those other people on the road are our families. Many times they are not educated on how to drive around trucks so it is our job to make sure we take every step possible to protect them and ourselves. Including but not limited to making sure the load is properly loaded, secured and safe for transport.milskired Thanks this.
