So you're going to be a driver manager for Hirshbach huh. That's just another name for a dispatcher right?Main reason why this company and others have a bad rep from the drivers is because thier dispatcher made the drivers hate the company.Jbird, you treat the drivers right, work with them and listen to what they're saying and believe me,you'll have alot of happy drivers. You can catch more flies with honey then vinigar, always remember that.

Hey Patty,
I appreciate the advice. I have seen my dad first hand being mistreated and lied too. That was at a company where his 1st cousin was the owner!! (Simon's Trucking). But anyway, I agree that the worst thing you can do to drivers, is lie to them. That is what I intend to do, and hopefully it goes well.

Listen to your drivers, you can learn a lot from them. If you are going to ask/tell them to do something you better know how to do it yourself. Learn the peoplenet, learn the logs, learn the regs. Learn what makes Hirschbach tick, don't sweat the crap you cant control, and focus on what you can. Take care of your drivers, treat them right. This doesn't mean give them whatever they want, but if you can't give them what they want tell them up front. It's likely to be uncomfortable at first but it's easier than being caught in a lie. I can't tell you how many times drivers will say they can't do something and the dispatcher will just say "yes you can", if you can explain how.
that's all I got, enjoy.jbird353 Thanks this. -
he will prolly be fired if his drivers are happy

I heard that does happen. My boss from Gateway got fired because he bonded with his employees. If we were in the right he had no problems defending us.Mike the head guy did and fired him.

Well Day #1 is in the books. Just did some job shadowing and drug test, normal routine 1st day stuff. I guess i'll be moving around between operations, load planning and customer service. Then I'll be able to pick which one I want to do at the end of the week. Then pursue from there. Don't know if I want to the Driver Manager after today...but we'll see.
