Thank you. And I am not totally against doing OTR trucking atleast for a little bit to get some experince because it seems that alot of local/regional jobs wont hire unless you have atleast a year or so of OTR trucking. Ive been away from them before (one deployment to iraq and another to afgan) I dont enjoy but if it helps us in the long run, do what I gotta do I guess

The Admission staff are car salesmen. It's their job to sell you on attending the school. But they don't tell you anything that isn't true. FA staff are top notch though. I understand you're looking to use your GI bill but you should talk to the FA's. They might find you some extra funding that could help cover stuff like fuel to get back and forth and other needs. The 599 will also help out. It's just a program to allow you to draw and still go to school, with "unenjoyment". What the 599 basically does is, once you're approved, you won't have to attend the workshops and other meetings the state requires you to attend to keep your status as good for unemployment. It's not "extra" funding, it just makes it so you can get trained for work properly.
As for how often they start classes, every 3 weeks. Currently we're about to end week 2 of the 3 week cycle. So if you want to do it, they're about to go live with the next starting class
Just remember a few things once you do get in to class.
1) BREATH! They will throw a ton of information at you in the first week. It's not as bad as you think. It's mostly common sense, and stuff you learned back in the day when you were learning to drive cars.
2) TAKE NOTES! Highlighters will become your best friend. The instructors will go over the DMV books with you in the first week and highlight what they suggest you do. Then once you're home, re-write what you highlighted in class that day. That way you're hearing it, seeing it, and then re-writing it, you'll be more likely to remember it once it comes to test time.
3) THE INSTRUCTORS ARE THERE TO HELP YOU! Every single instructor on the staff there has gone out of their way when myself or anyone else in my class has asked for any help. This goes for both field and lab (classroom) instruction. Lonny, Joyce, Art, Jimmy, Dennis, Chad, Tom, Don, the John's (There's like 4 of them at last count, make a score card to keep them straight), Lance and especially Mr. Clark. Also the newer Instructors that i know i'm forgetting names of, sorry.
Good luck GT, and hope to see you in the yard soon.Last edited: Jun 22, 2012

Most of the companies they deal with at NTTS will hire fresh out of school. Just be mindful of what you're looking for and make sure it's what you really want to do. As has been said before here, you'll want to stick with your first company at least 365 days.
