Sitting here at the TA in Gary In. 22 miles to my delivery. I called the reciever for directions and was told not to come to the South Chicago Community Center with their playground equipment because the neighborhood is not safe to sleep over night. I wonder who's going to be using this equipment, the kids or the upstanding taxpaying locals that give South Chicago such a wonderful name. Oh well, not my place to start a debate, I'll just deliver the freight and let them figure it out.

I was sent my preplan this afternoon. I have to deadhead to Omaha Ne 480 miles, to pick up a load on Friday that has 4 stops in and around Los Angeles on Monday and Tuesday.

I just applied to Calex. It's the first Company that I contacted that didn't have all the BS. Been driving 38yrs,OTR,Regional,Local all weather all conditions with No accidents or Speeding tickets. Done heavy haul, Reefer, dry van etc well you get the picture. Anyway Company im with is slow so I started looking, figuring with my Driving record and Experience I'll walk into a good job. Wrong Answer.
Have be told by a bunch of people that I do not qualify. Some even told me that I'm on the same level as someone coming out of school because I have been OTR for a yr or so. Calex is the first company that has looked at the work record and not judged the man. It't a little disheartening to work you whole life (so it seems) and take pride in what you do and what you drive to have these Companies want to either not hire you or hire you for a wage we were making 25 years ago. Sorry for the venting But us Old Head are getting the Shaft. Peace

You will be hired based on what your record and experience says, not what might fall out of your mouth. They have been just fine for me the last 3 years. I came here with the same experience as you and was hired based on that. They aren't perfect but for me we work great together. Everything about the company and the way they operate is kept to simple terms, including their hiring and orientation. So simple that they somehow forget some things to tell you. Nothing major, just little things that make life a little easier. As you go through the process, if you have any questions just ask, one of us will have the answer. Good Luck.

I'm getting loaded in Omaha at US Cold Storage. 11 am appointment, got here at 10 and am three quarters loaded, waiting on the rest of my product to be put on my trailer. Denver tonight, Las Vegas tomorrow night, then Los Angeles around noon on Sunday to start my reset. The way the load is set up to come off I will be able to finish my reset then finish the last 2 drops on Tuesday. Louie already said I will be loading Wednesday.

Side note, I got to watch every game of the finals between Miami and OKC while my wife went to the last 2 games including the clinching game last night. This is when I don't like this career choice of mine. I went to the Miami Finals in '06 for 3 games, but this go around I had the luxury of sitting in a rest area watching the games on my 24 inch Plasma TV, not quite the same look and feel like the 60" one at the house. Oh well, maybe next year. In any event, it was a series to remember, OKC has a lot to look forward to in the coming years.

I have a little time on my hands waiting to get the last of my load on, so I did some figuring on miles. No matter how I slice it, based on a 2 week period, my miles only come out to about 300 more per week to go west. I left the house on a Monday, ran 3800 miles to the following Monday, then went and started my west coast turn. This turn will come out to right at 6100 miles, or 3050 per week on average. Gary and I constantly debate this. I do it just for a change of scenery. The extra 300 miles per week that I'll get isn't worth the time away from home, for me. But, for me It's a lot easier loading and driving the next 4.5 days then running up and down I-81 dropping and hooking, live loading, bumping docks hauling heavy freight and a lot of times working all hours of the night. I do west coast turns for the rest, even in the winter across Wyoming. My wife doesn't like the fact that I'm gone 2 weeks when I go west. Running back and forth to the house is a lot more acceptable for her.

Post number 1956, that was a good year, especially on Feb. 13th.......lol

    Hitman Thanks this.
