Hey Donnie...yes, as they call them at Poland Springs in Bufu, Maine (while they load them up with just under 47,000 Lbs of water)...Redneck Express. What a terrible job that was! I got like 5 mpg in that Freightshaker going to Somerset with one load. It wasn't much better fuel mileage on a lot of the loads. They insisted to never take toll roads even if you got terrible mileage and it was three hours longer to get there down some narrow rollercoaster roads.
ACT...looking good!

The funniest part about that Poland Springs load was this: They have you stop at the gate and open your doors. Then, you pull inside to the holding area and they call you when they are ready. I'm sitting there and waiting to be called to get loaded. This other W.E. driver pulls up to the gate and gives his information. They tell him to open the doors and pull through. He goes to open the doors and a couple of minutes later you hear him get back on the radio. "I think I grabbed a loaded trailer at the last place...there's something in the back". He drove at least 2-3 hours minimum with that loaded trailer to Maine. Then, he had to go back to return it and grab an empty. That has to suck!

Please see my new thread for updates (since I have finished orientation and have started driving with this fine company). It can be found here:

Please check out the other ACT threads, too. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or any of the other ACT drivers. We will be happy to answer your questions. -
My orientation was back in Jun 2011. I thought I was going to be over the road and do their lease program but they had other ideas. I was local and paid by the hour. $15 an hour. 60 hours a week.
Not the greatest in the world but an easy job. Lots of loads when into the caves around KC.
They haul lots of tires for Ford and GM. Instillation from Certain-tee, and pet supplies for Pet Smart.
They also send a lot of paper to Oklahoma.
As to the leases there, the company is owned by lawyers. The lease is not in your favor but it can work.
They try to come off as driver friendly and they are. But it is true that the load planners park in the handicap spaces.
Good luck to you all.123456 Thanks this. -
ok, well guess time for me to actually say something. pete, kujo, thanks. all the orientation looked good. truck rides like a dream compared to what is was driving. and yes, getting used to the 13 isnt taking as long as i figured it would. had it pretty smooth about halfway to tulsa from kc. sitting at home to fix the car my wife broke, seriously no. just a timing belt, not a big issue. will get out of here in plenty of time to make dallas monday am. just wanted to say thanks . drive safe everyone.

Anyway. Mom's truck is up and running, w/ new tires. Either later this evening or tomorrow, the car will be fixed. Then, he's gonna get itchy for the road. Oh well, Momma needs new air conditioner units, so I guess I'll let him.
