Today I completed the 10 day firehose training, filled out the w4 and got my hat.
I go to Helena,Mt tomorrow to get my truck, and then off to wherever.

If you are prepared to work your butt off, you will enjoy the training.
If you are coming here for a vacation, stay home.

    Best of luck to you.

Thanks sammycat and jet460! Just talked to a kid today that as he said it "escaped" on his last day at w/s scared for his life, but that could just mean that he's not what there looking for, w/s just didn't know it yet. Just hope if I make the cut they start me out with some easy assignments!!! By the way, the kid was getting his grey dog ticket for swift when I called him:biggrin_2551:

haha thats too funny probably scared him when they took it outta gear going down a 6% grade lol. Its ok, you'll see him someday he'll be serveing you bergers at McDonalds when he burns his truck to the ground from a brake fire or drives off a mountian and gets fired. If someone cant make it at w/s they shouldnt be driving a truck period. A truck is a truck, dont matter the name on the door if you can drive you can drive.

Hi A/T! Two ways to look at that I guess. I am a little worried about coming straight out of school and getting thrown in the shark tank right out of orientation with no trainer time. How much does w/s do with you in actual drive time other than just backing etc? Keep up the good work on the videos!

they'll take you out at least twice, like axe said, once around the city, they'll put you in some tight places to see if you can handle it, then the next time out you'll go up into the mountains and learn to shift. Honestly there really isnt a reason to be with a trainer, you passed a state DMV test to get the license that right there says you know how to make a truck go forward and backwards, the only other thing you need to be a truck driver is common sence and know your limits and be able to stop yourself and think. If you dont know what your doing STOP, think, still dont know? call someone, they give you a long list of phone numbers, alot of us here give out our phone numbers to anyone that wants them, i get phone calls/texts/emails every day 10-20 a day from drivers with question, asking for advice, tip, tricks, or just wanting to talk to someone.

A Trainer cant teach you any of that, most stuff you need to learn, you can/will learn all on your own or by asking other drivers for help, which personally i find to be the better way to get good help, trainers tend to like to puff up there chest by trying to teach you everything even stuff they dont know which just makes the student an idiot.

Just take your time, dont rush and dont be affraid to ask for help and you'll be just fine.

They will not pass you through orientation if you are not able to do the job. Just gotta have confidence in yourself. Trust me living in a truck with some stranger for a month or 2 sucks and can be dangerous.
