The 720 is a very robust unit and has features that any long haul driver should have esp: those in areas that can have real adverse weather. Unless you are realy hard on equipment I can't see anyone damaging this unit. Have had my 700 for 2 yrs and never had any sort of problems with the unit itself. Got the 720 today just cause of the new features, I would recommend this unit to anyone who drives truck for a living and needs a gps. Hope this helps in your decission and also the help you get from Mark in this forum is second to none.

New Subject---
Mark-
Is it normal for the battery light to flutter when an alert-ithor POI or navigational- is made? It actually appears to blink red when the annoucement is going on in time to the voice. I noticed this last night. -
Where might one find those two files? Red light and speed camera?
-
I just purchased the 720 as well and noticed the same red light flicker on the unit. I am wondering if this may be a power issue, as I also noticed that the real time traffic receiver also seems to come on and off when I am in a traffic receiver location (e.g. Atlanta). I verified this when stopped at a Petro there. I am using the DC car charger that came with the unit.
Also, just a couple of suggestions that you may want to pass on the the " engies" at Rand:
1) Could it be possible to have an option to scale some of the screen elements (speed limit, current speed, next maneuver arrow, etc.) to various sizes, like a small-medium-large option?
2) Don't know if this can be done but add another option for the "quick power press" to toggle the wi-fi on/off.
3) I think that since this has wifi capability, an option to also see fuel prices at various truck stops would be all kinds of sweet! -
My TND 500 A 47 T5C 1704BD is in the "Insert SD" mode. Card is missing (?)
Is there a .tar or .zip avail to create new SD.

Poi factory.com I think is the link. However, one has to be a paid member to get access to those files. The membership isn't all that much though. I am sure that if you google it, you could proabably find some other sources.

I saw on a the trucking forum that you are a lead beta tester for RM. I purchased an RM710 six days ago. After bringing it home and plugging it in to the 110 charger over night I packed it up and headed on the road. during my trip from Boston to Michigan it work great. I made 5 pick ups and deliveries with out an issue. While making pick ups in MI, it locked up on me twice. I also noticed the plug was quite warm. I unplugged it until it cooled down. plugged it back in again and it would fire up and immediately lock. I called RM support and spoke to a repressive. They were ZERO help. He asked if i had my receipt, and it i could plug the unit into the computer and fax him the receipt. I explained i was in MI on my way to NY and NJ with 5 stops. he could have cared less. He said when i get my receipt and could prove the date of purchase I could call back. He said more then likely, I would have to send the unit back to RM, and they would send me a refurbished unit. I explained i needed a GPS for where i was going. He told me to go buy another unit. I told him I wanted to speak to a supervisor, after being on hold for 45 mins, he came back and told me no one was available. he took my number and said someone would call me. The next day a supervisor called me and stated he reviewed the phone call and the service tech. acted properly. I explained that the receipt and box was in Boston, and he could have cared less. It was the worst customer service experience in my life. I am very disappointed in not only the product but the representation, This product was build strictly for truckers yet there is no support in place for truckers. Thank you for listening to my rant, If you could please forward this to RM I would appreciate it.

1. On the map screen, slide out the Turn by turn list and change it to highway view by hitting the display options at the bottom. Then find the road you wish to detour and tap on that. You will see detour at the top. Tap on Detour and a new screen will appear. Click on the segment of the road you wish to detour. This detour is a temporary detour and will only stay as long as the TND is on.
2. On the map screen, press the COG on the bottom left. On the next screen press the detour button. Find the road you wish to detour and then tap on the distance you wish to detour. This is a permanent detour.
Thanks,
MarkAZS Thanks this.
