I went 61-90 minutes. I just graduated school last month. We watched a 15 minute video. Then they did 2 examples on a small chalkboard at the front of the class that no one could see. After that they told us to fill out our log books for the next few days until we graduated. Once we did turn them in they were not checked for accuracy or even opened up and checked to make sure there was ink on a page anywhere. So really about 15 good minutes at best.
Actually spent more time in company orientation than in CDL school.

Two weeks here. Our school is broken down into 5 modules that are 2 weeks each. The log book part is in with trip planning, map reading etc...
After the ten weeks of class then we have 10 weeks training in the trucks. -
Just graduated last month. Miss read the question, went 30-60. had a hour long power point explaining what goes where, did in conjunction with trip planning. Did a confusing excercize(twice).
We where then expected and graded, logging every step until and beyond graduation. So we did daily logs throughout the course. -
The school I went to we had a solid 4 hours of training in the classroom, plus like others have said it was an on going thing where we logged our activities, including road time in our log books for about 2 weeks.

Hey every one, I am currently in school for my cdl, i paying for it at an acredited cdl traninning center, its 6 months, 10 weeks class, 10 weeks range, and 4 weeks on the rd.
so as of my first day 6 weeks ago, we started the logs, and on that very frist day of class our instuctor showed us how to do it by using a huge model of one, ( like a white board ) done specificly for Logs, he also showed us on an over head projoctor from his computer, plus he showed a video, that was the 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th day, it was pretty over-whelming at first, but now i just zip right through it, it gets easy after a while,
altho, what ever you do, i would not rocomend you try and fudge you logs, we have had drivers and FORMER driver come in and talk to us about it, and some have showed us tickets the recieved, one was over $3,350.00 so i will not run illegel no matter how bad i need $

I feel you definetly need more training (one on one) than that! But again I could be boring and not teach you anything, DOUBT IT
. I wish I could have tought you, because you would have learned something or learned more details about all your log DOT regulations

I am suprised because to actually teach all the regulations and make sure you understand them it should be a class of # least 8 hours. Which could be broken down into 4 hours a day or something. Logging what you do is easy, making sure you understand the Hours of Service is a different issue and would take many test to assure you understand the regulations and why you are logging the "legal" way. I think much of the trucking industries problem is they don't train you correctly (on logs) in the first place.
The other is having the same log format for any where you go! That's my biggest complaint. If you had the same log format at all compaines then you would know how to fill out the log and the company could go over the "DOT regulations/HOS/False logs" with you instead of wasting the time on "how to fil out the daily log". Does this make sense and would this help you? -
