Why CSA 2010 and E-Logs are a good thing.

    Just picture every truck running @ 65 MPH!! You think traffic is bad now!!, you'll have trucks running down the highway side by side for GOD only knows how many miles. Not a smart move on the goverment.... UNSAFE FOR EVERYONE.. When they force me into e-logs and 65 mph- my truck will be up for sale.... I'll find a job driving a straight truck with -out air brakes and stay local..

    I have nothing to ad to this comment.
    Too bad that many are buying into this crap that recorders and more regulation on the drivers will make the roads safer.
    As much as I'm opposed to more regulations, I still believe that some regulation could be useful:
    How about creating some usefull regulation, regulating the big carriers/load brokers/agents????
    How about stopping this cutthroat load brokering games that make the paper pushers rich and the guy doing the actual work broke???

    I'm sorry.....I was raised by a so called outlaw trucker and have been one all my trucking career. My dad never had a accident that was his fault and neither have I. I have hauled 100k up and down the highway, ran 3 log books at a time and hauled freight with no authority. Most people I know became a trucker because they didn't want someone looking over their shoulder telling them what to do. We love our freedom and the challenge of operating how we see fit.

    All of you who like to have a noose around your neck, I.E. Government regulations, and run compliant (Hate that word) then you go right ahead and do so. I and others like me will continue to operate like we always have, EOBR's or not! Do not think that we will not find a way around a EOBR! Do not think that Government will fence us in! This is just another challenge and obsticle to overcome like all the others we have before.

    The outlaw truckers built this industry and we will be here long after you are all gone.

    We have these devices for a long tome now, before you could fiddle them but now; let me put it this way, in order to keep these things compliant with the law means we are away from home for longer periods (3 weeks usually) the pay has been reduced cos the trucks are earning less , alot of companies now won't pay you when parked for your 45hour breaks, compare that to a few years ago, we were at home 3 days a week with 30% more pay, also from an owners point of view it's hard to keep a reliable service when a delay could mean your truck doesn't show up on time or even on the right day! For small operators they make life very tough but they do play right onto the hands of big carriers who can have another truck on standby. Oh have they reduced accidents here? No is the answer! But are a great revenue generating tool for poor broke police forces up and down the continent

    Well, I think that your assessment of "Snowwy"s comment is the actual "complete and utter Bravo Sierra!
    Sure, the box and the HOS are not making you drive when tired, but on the other hand they can't know when you're tired or if you're already tired before you start the day. So, to imply that the box and the HOS are ensuring that every driver out there is in the best shape possible to drive at all times is a big Bravo Sierra. So, what safety enhancement comes from the box and the HOS??? NONE!!!
    The whole reason for the box is to be an extra tool in the hands of big brother to enforce the already stupid HOS rules that in light of logic can be determined that it cant ensure perfect driver fitness.....all this things ensuring one thing only: invasion of the driver's privacy rights.
    Sure the box might control a little bit the abuses perpetrated by company dispatchers on the company drivers, but where are this contraptions coming handy in the case of independent owner/operators??
    The truth is that NO contraption and NO rules are able to determine when a man is tired or not. There's nothing and nobody that can use your body and your capabilities at the best efficiency and in the safest fashion, other then yourself. So, being "Legal" dos not mean that you're being safer.
    Meny things can be done "Legal" nour days and at the same time being completely wrong, unethical, immoral and evil.
    It's all about common sense and doing the right thing!

    And that "my little friend", you can take to the bank!

    Right and correct, in the good old days you could pull for a couple of hours sleep if you felt tired, nowadays in order to have time to get your work done you gotta keep pushing on, I've often done, safety ?? Pahh that gentlemen is the harsh reality of it , sounds like a great idea but it doesn't work that good in reality

    As you said earlier, you outlaw. Those days are dying and I'm #### glad they are. Been there, done that. Glad I survived, as some of my friends did not. It ain't worth the premature aging and the possible prison terms for killing someone, even though they were the one that caused the accident.
    That is the fact.

    The problem we are experiencing over here is if you are just a couple of minutes over your time and the unthinkable happens automatically you're guilty,No matter what, you shouldn't have been on the road! drive tired and your within hours you're not guilty, it doesn't make sense and it's not working, another affect they had was local guys won't drive long distance anymore , to keep these logs in order most companies are sending you away for 3 weeks and are not paying the driver while he takes the breaks he legally has to do, instead what we got was a lot of eastern European drivers who got their license in the military arrived here with no driving experience ( nevermind driven a right-hand-drive) handed the keys of a truck and ploughed into some family before he even made the ferry.

    These really are not the way to go, they are the start to over regulation, they do little for safety and you can take my word for this as the former owner of a small company: they will end the o/o industry the way they have done it here , 5 years ago myself and I can think of about 15 of my buddies either owned small companies or were o/o's not one of us is still in business, all the work has gone to mega carriers like lkw Walter, Nolans etc who can have trucks anywhere at any time, especially reefer work where you'd have no hope of getting to your destination at the time the load is needed there, those big carriers would have another truck waiting to continue on with the load, no small operator can compete with those odds

    so what would be considered an outlaw trucker.

    cuz i drive the same amount of hours yall do. i take the same breaks you all do. i drive the same miles you all do in a day.

    BUT, i do work more then most of you do.

    van drivers only have to open and close there doors and back in the docks. where as flats have to secure the load and most times cover it. and that ISN'T no easy chore this time of year.

    now i can understand keeping guys from driving 24 hours a day. but i'm a human being, not a machine. I NEED SLEEP.

    to be honest though. i think what it comes down to is jealousy. we can take a nap when we desire. we're not forced to drive just becuase there are hours left in the shift. we're not forced to park it 5 minutes from our desitnation. and we're not woken up.

    we're not micromanaged. PERIOD.
    THE #1 RULE OF DRIVING IS NO FATIGUED DRIVING. THAT RULE WILL ALWAYS SUPERCEDE WHAT THE GOVT WANTS OR THE BLACK BOX.

    I KNOW WHEN I'M TIRED. NOT THE GOVT AND NOT SOME DA - NED ELECTRONICS

    if you wanna call me an outlaw trucker then so be it. but like i said. i drive, work, and break the same hours you all do. i just do it at my convenience and that will always make me safer then some box.

    so don't be jealous all you box lovers.

    i said it before and i'll say it again. there was abosultely nothing wrong with the old HOS rules. those were a lot safer and more legal then the crap rules now.
