for these runs you defo need to look at H&R Transport from Alberta.

 

Agritel transportation, Beausejour ,Manitoba. They have recently hired uk drivers. They have a website, google "agritel transportation", they are an excellent company. Good luck.

 

Who told you this ? I know of lot's of Commonwealth folk working in the US. Aussies, Brits, Scots, etc

If you find out why, I'd love to know that as well.

Hi my trucker friend I saw this and I had to join to give you some advice. I have just visited Canada and I am looking to do the same to live and work in Canada, I have been in touch with a Canadian company in Saskatchewan they have terminals over Canada the company is called Westcan and I contacted there Moose Jaw terminal whilst I was in Canada a lady called Sandra emailed me an application wich i have filled out scanned onto my computer and emailed it to her they do everything online and via Skype. You will only be allowed to do long haul they will get your LMO and then after the 6 months they will then apply for your nominated imigration. You do need to bear in mind if you have have family they wont be able to work untill you have your imgration sorted. My application is goin through now I have had my first interview via skype ( I only came home on the 16th June) so they do act quickly but the quickest I will get to Canada would be the new year. Also one thing to mention you will keep your car lisence but NOT your Class 1 you will need to pay for your class1a once you get to Canada Westcan will organise but you WILL have to pay it cost around $2000 so its not cheap. I have also just emailed Yanke as I was talking to a UK driver who drives for them they paid for his class 1a I am waiting for an email back from them but Canada is on a national holiday until 3rd of July if you need anymore information send me an email with your email and I will email you my mobile number I dont want to place my mobile number for all to see. Westcan seem to have reasonable track record as regards immigrants however keeep in mind the fact that they only operate in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan so you won't be seeing the US.

 

Hi thanks for that I am also looking at Yanke do you know what they are like. To be perfectly honest I am not really that bothered going down to the states lets be fair let other people have the headache of border crossings. However if I work for a company expecting me to cross the border I would be more than happy to do so. I see you live in Canada by your status, who do you drive for and what are they like to work for. What kind of earnings to you take home at the end of the month ( I know thats being nosey and I am sorry if you arfe offended in me asking I understand if you dont want to answer) I am not expecting the £700 a week like drivers here think they earn I just expect a reasonable pay for a hard days work. As far as I know at Yanke you would have to start off running team which I certainly would not want and I doubt very much you would either.
I started off in Canada with Big Freight from Steinbach MB but I don't think the recruit from the UK now.
Nowadays I work for a small reefer company and in all honestyI can say that I am better looked after than anywhere I have ever worked before including when I was back in the UK.
Unfortunately for you, we only have seven company owned trucks and in the four years that I have worked here we have never had to advertise for a driver.
700 pound sterling is around $1,000 and is not impossible to take home for a good week at a good company although I doubt such a company would have to recruit drivers from overseas.
Saying that I know drivers who work for Bison transport, Winnipeg who say they earn that much and Bison used to recruit from the UK.

 

Hi thanks for all your help I did contact Bison as I spoke to one of there drivers when I was in Canada. They are not curently looking for any drivers.When you first went to Canada did you have to pay for your own clas 1a or did the company pay for you. Westcan expect me to pay for it which on one hand is not a bad thing at least I wont be tied, I know after 6 months the company would apply for nominated imigration which I know would take a couple of years would I then be able to do short haul or would I have to remain doing long haul as long as I work in Canada. Also you mentioned you changed jobs is that just a case of applying for a new job or did you hve to change detais on your nominated imgration or did you appy for full imigraton before leaving UK. Sorry to keep asking you questions and I am so greatfull for all your help so far. I just want t make esure I apply corectly first time round. Once again thank you for all your help.

########! there is no driver shortage. if there was, there'd be freight piled up on shipper's docks and shelves in stores empty. What there is is, a shortage of drivers willing to work for peanuts and guys like you who continue to aid these carriers in bringing in cheap labour from overseas are only exasperating the problem.

 

Brits are not cheap labour though by any means. Big Freight found that out a few years back and H&R in Alberta are in the proccess of discovering that except it's taking them a long time to realize.
I have never worked for peanuts in 20 years of trucking and I never will.
No disrespect intended but I have often been very surprised by the wages and conditions many born and bred Canadian guys have been prepared to put up with.
