Yep right there at Alcoa. I laugh every time I see those pictures. Every time I pickup from there I put atleast 1 strap on so things like that dont happen.

Hate to be that driver... I pull a reefer and have seen fruit and freight all the ground and dock areas. Proper securement goes a longgggg way. :biggrin_2551:

Used to fight with a steel plant about not moving until the load is secure, told me they were licking me out and I said fine.

I picked up a load of soft drink cola from one of the big name cola giants awhile back. The trailer was sealed on the lot then opened at the guard shack. The load was fine at that point and the guy at the guard shack put one of those inflatable air bags between the wall of the trailer and the load. As I jump up in the trailer to strap the load I was firmly told not to do it and to jump back in the truck, the guard sealed the trailer and I was on my way. Needless to say the entire load fell over. My company told me they had lots of issues with the guards keeping drivers from strapping the freight at that place...Why? I just don't get it.

About a month later I go to pick up another load from the same company but another location and had a similar problem. They loaded the trailer and blocked the tie down holes with the freight then refused to fix the problem. It took over an hour of me blocking their driveway at the guard shack before they agreed to reload the freight in such a way that it was possible to secure it.

Needless to say I don't haul loads for them anymore.

    Um....sounds kinky?

Hahahaha...j/k. I've had words with more than a few people at shipper/receiver locations about moving while the load wasn't secured. My ship, my cargo, my rules, deal with it.

I used to work for a co that hauled a lot of Coca Cola products. We did it in curtain vans. I can't remember how many spilled loads I've seen. They will not figure out how to stack or wrap that stuff properly no matter how much of it ends up on the ground. I"ve seen a driver open his doors on a dry van & almost get knocked over by the product falling out of the trailer. 2 liter bottles are horrible, Dasani water & any Fanta product is just as bad.

I don't miss spending 8 hours at the dock getting loaded either

    Minder Kat Thanks this.
