So... you're tellin' me that drivers weren't scapegoats before electronics?

 

Here is what I am trying to get across, before electronics, when there was a DOT audit, the inspector came to your office and asked for payroll records, log records, and any other forms that he thought necessary, for any given date range, and he would set down at a desk and start going through them with a calculator and note pad, and this process might repeat itself several times through the day, at the end of the day, the driver had as good a chance as the company had at being cited for any given violation that was found, I once worked for a company where several drivers were fined, and the company was fined as well, for violations. The audit might take a day or several days, depending on the size of the company. Now with electronics, they will com in, hit a few keys on the computer and all the violations will come up instantly. All of the driver inspections on the road they will already have in hand when they walk in the door. Everything looks to me like it is being set up against the driver, you won't realize it until you apply for another job, can't have this, can't have that.. And yes, in answer to your question, there were at one time a few companies that took care of their drivers, now, it is all in electronic format, can't find a place to park? over on hours.. Clearance light out during inspection? driver didn't catch it on the pretrip... and on and on it goes. If you weren't around back then it would be hard for you to grasp this, especially if you grew up with the electronic age, but from my perspective looking back, I can see a vast difference that makes me wonder if I can tolerate it until I can retire..

I physically saw this happening at the scale in WI on I90/39 south of Madison. Along with weights as well.

ironpony Let me ask you a question, go back to the beginning of this thread to the original question and read down through it, now, what have you contributed to this thread, any words of wisdom about the matter, I see none, if you have some words of wisdom we would be interested in hearing them, if not, then what are you trying to get across here?

 

You're the one who is claiming that things have changed since "electronics." Tubes? Transistors? Integrated circuits? You respond that things have changed since "paper." Well, the Egyptians had paper something like 4,000 years ago, but we're still using paper logs. My point is nothing has changed. DOT and LEO are still writing tickets as they've done for ages, catching drivers who try to circumvent the regulations. Companies are still laying as much blame as possible on the drivers - as they always have. So... what's changed?

And when did you get promoted to "thread police?"
