Hello everybody, long time reader and first time poster! So i will be attending a trucking school at a local college in a month or so. I have yet to do my tests to get my permit even, however i have already done the DOT physical and UA and passed with flying colors! :) So my question is, at this point in time do i have a DAC record because i took the physical and UA, or do i not have a DAC in my name until i get my permit and/or CDL or even until i get a job. Keep in mind i do not have a permit, cdl, or employment with any company at this time. Thanks for any answers! FYI i live in Illinois, if that pertains to anything.

You don't have a DAC until someone reports something. That won't be until you go to an orientation or get hired.

What about the physical results and UA results? I passed my drug test just fine, but if someone were to fail, would that then give the person a DAC even though they have not been hired? Or what if a student got into an accident while still in school. I am just curious as to how the whole process works.

DAC is not anything official. It's just a service companies use. You didn't take the physical for a company so there is nobody to report it.

I doubt if a community college reports to DAC. A company school would be a whole different matter.

I'll add that good things don't get reported to DAC, just bad things. Nobody is going to report that you passed a drug test.

So the hospital (or wherever) that does the testing does not report to the DAC even if the person would have failed?
Also, thanks for the info! I thought that DAC was some sort of DOT subdivision or something, glad to be learning!

No you do not , when you apply at a carrier you will be given forms to fill out consenting to let them report to DAC, anyway your CSA will tell all just the same

But what if a person had failed the drug test? Would that be reported by the testing facility to DAC, or still not until that person got a job?

You sure you didn't fail a drug test?

The testing place reports to whoever ordered the test. They do not report to DAC. The only people that report things to DAC are companies that belong to that service.

So...if you go on your own to take a physical and you fail the drug test it would not get reported to anyone but you. If you go to a company orientation and you fail the drug test, that company will report it to DAC, if they use that service.

Yes I am sure that i did not fail! I was just curious as to where the DAC process starts, and the drug test failure/passing seemed to be a huge part of that. But now I know that it starts when you get hired for a company. That seems odd though, since couldn't some drug addict fail his DOT test, then just stay clean until he got hired, pass that test and then start using again while he is driving?

DAC is a division of HireRight. Not all companies subscribe to DAC. It mainly consists of the larger companies with lets say 100-200 drivers. But a few smaller companies belong to it.

Your history starts the moment you sign that release form. But the catch is someone in your shoes is you haven't developed an employee file yet. Most likely the company would keep track of you on the computer only. You could dispute the DAC just like a credit report. If the company can't provide physical proof then the data is removed.

You can read about them here.
