Shoot, I wish that I had known about contacting cummins. I just wrote the check for the whole shebang this morning.
I'll definitely pass on the issue with the belt pullies, because we can't afford any more problems at this point. Hubby aboutwhen I wrote the check.
Any other advice? I know that they replaced every hose on the truck, fuel and coolant related. The turbo was replaced as well, because it was too gummed up to risk running with it. Honestly the motor looks practically brand new now.
And this would be why you need a reserve fund...

Thats because it should be right around new specs if not exceeding them. What was the total, might be looking at an inframe sometime soon as I have 1,105,9xx miles on my n-14+ right now. Will hopefully be able to get off with only rebuilding the bottom end but I will see. -

I eventually developed a good relationship with one of the cummins's engineers which really helped me a lot as I'd never owned anything but a Cat up until that time. He "UN- officially" gave me a list of things, not a long one thank goodness. Seems that I recall another issue with one of the engine components but dang if I can remember what it was right now, something to do with the oil cooler. I do remember one issue that DROVE me nuts until I figured it out. I'd be trucking on down and poof the truck would shoot fault codes so fast I couldn't read them and then just shut down. Cummins looked and looked, no joy for them or me. Finally one day I figured it out. There was only one common denominator which was each time the truck was wet either from weather or truck washes. So I got home and wet down different areas of the engine with a 2 gallon pressure sprayer, starting on the passenger side and working my way around, 2hours later, bingo at the ECM! Well there was a pin hole in the ECM plug and weather proof cover and the water would seep in there and cause a break in the voltage which would send the ECM on a hissy fit and kill the power to the engine. It was the weirdest thing. Cummins replaced the whole shooting match and I never had a problem again like that thank God.
It might not hurt to at least find out who your rep is and get some line of communications going with him/her. I'd just start out by asking them exactly what they do and what they can do in the event there is a problem with you and he dealer or warranty etc, just anything you can think of. I'd be as social as possible without loosing the business side in the conversation. It's better to find this out BEFORE you need them and things have gotten tense. I always sent Christmas cards and a snack tray to the different suppliers that I did business with just so they knew they were appreciated. You get more flies with honey than you do salt.

Disassembled engine for overhaul.
Replaced all cylinder kits, rod and main bearings.
Replaced all Cylinder heads, injectors and Turbo.
Replaced water pump, oil pump and oil cooler.
Replaced all piston cooling nozzles.
Replaced all necessary belts.
Replaced T-stats.
Replaced all radiator hoses.
Replaced all heater hoses.
Replaced accessory drive seal.
Replaced all necessary gaskets and seals.
Replaced all steel fuel lines and fittings to cylinder heads.
Tuned up engine and reset jakes.
Replaced lower radiator hose tube.
Road tested. -
The truck I wrecked a few weeks ago just had the front end of the engine replaced because of this. 1.1 million and it had already had an inframe 2ook or 3ook miles before that. -
My advice is any time the engine is over hauled replace the turbo. I've seen too many times some body wants to do an over haul on the cheap and a few months later the turbo leaves em at the side of the road. fun fun......... NOT -
I have to agree with Brickman on the turbo.
When did you have wreck? Hope you weren't hurt. Wow I am behind on things over here!

We did get a new turbo. The old one was shot, gummed up. That was a nice pricey item.

Coulda been a CAT. I think they are like $1400 or some such.
