from what i heard looks like a repeal has been filed for to do away with the twic; to me twic is nothing more than a money making big joke

if one can pass the finger-printing check from the hazmat endorsement, that SHOULD BE acceptable enough.
i always said, "why do we as AMERICAN'S HAVE TO PROVE we are not terrorist threats, when a terrorist can just hijack a rig and do the damage..?"
i think terrorists ought to apply for terrorism visa's and wait for approval before they terrorize any country.
that'll stall them for a while, or maybe not, given that many countries freely give away Visa's... -
i'm a felon & doubt i am able to get a twic right now; but from what i've been reading & listening to ooida, it probably won't be here for much longer. several companies i've applied with won't hire me for the simple reason i don't have a twic & likely not able to get one.

There is no repeal that I've heard of..merely there was a push to require less credentialing allowing for background checks to be comparable for both Hazmat and TWIC. Since they recently changed the pricing to reflect that, it's just a matter of time before one requires only one background check period. The TWIC however won't be going anywhere, as it still is specific to port entry, and hazmat still has to be tested for as an endorsement. You can still enter a port without a hazmat endorsement, but you can't haul hazmat from that port without a hazmat endorsement or enter the port unsupervised without the TWIC.Last edited: Jul 11, 2012

Okay, found it, listened to it. (another boring hour, sigh)
June 28, 2012, before the House Committee on Transportation Infrastructure, Mr. Lindsay McLaughlin, Legislative Director of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union ,when making his statement to the Committee stated in part:
Quash this rumor in a hurry. As much as they may like to, the Unions are not controlling the Legislative body......yet. -

Unions don't have legislative sway? If it's imp[important to them, they will pursue it. -
Making a statement, however, that they heard the TWIC was going to be repealed, like it was from an actual United States Legislative body, rather than from a Union's vote on a resolution, is why I said:
It was purely, a rumor, which is why I asked for the link to hunt it down for a reality check. And it failed the reality check. -
