Very broad question. I don't think any driver on here has info about 450,000 trucking companies on the top of their head. But just so you know, almost all orientations are basically the same, 2-4 days of class and testing and paperwork etc. A smaller class, say 2-5 drivers is much nicer than a class of 50.

If by worst you mean the most disorganized and poorly run JBHunt would be way at the top of my list. No-one seemed to know what was going on for the 5 days I was there. They even waited till day 4 for the physical and day 5 for the driving test. Why make people wait that long if they can't drive a friggen truck? Do both in the first 2 days so you are not waisting anyones time. SNI seemed to have their stuff together. Straight forward, well organized and on the ball. Of course, I can't speak to the other 399,000

Kinda my question. What do you do for 10 days? A 5 day orientation was ridiculous. One small company I worked for consisted of a morning filling out paperwork then a driving test. I then got a truck and spent the afternoon cleaning it, it was already pretty decent but i'm kinda anal about that stuff and the next morning went to pick up my first load and off I went. oh, forgot the physical which took about an hour.

Just how long does it take to learn to drive a truck nowadays ?

Stand by by for old fart rant I can feel it coming on !!

Back in my day (as all good stories start out) I just walked into the DMV and told them I wanted to get a drivers license and after passing the tests both paper and driving I was given my license .

I then went and bought my very first truck! (a 1972 Brockway with a 1674 cat and a 13 with 4:11 rears ) and I learned to drive the thing on the way home.

The next day I went to a local sand and rock outfit and asked if they were looking for any owner ops .

The man said they were and asked if I ever pulled a dump trailer before I told that I had not but I could darn sure figure it out !

I was glad he didn't ask if I had ever pulled a trailer before because I hadn't at the time !!

So to make a long story short that was 32 years ago and I have yet to have any wrecks crash's or fender bender's.

I have found that if you take your time and pay attention to what is going on around you that you will be ok just stop BEFORE the problem gets out of hand !!!!!

You might learn a tiny little bit by riding with a trainer but you will remember every lesson you learn on your own that I can promise you !!

Ok I will get off my soap box and go back to gumming my oatmeal so young whipper snappers can get back to doing things the safe and better way .......
