To get this thread back from destruction,i remember reading this old quote.
    I don't agree.
If you drive a modern auto, using the same driving style as you did with a manual, the results will not be good.
When i went from a manual to an auto,it took me some time to adjust and change.
And change i had to do,in fact alot off it.
But i did it and the result are there.

I find/found it INCREDIBLY difficult to go the other way from auto back to shifter...
Couldn't shift well enough to get an almost sure thing big truck job.
Happy enough at this point to do Hotshot with my own pu.

Couldn't agree more! When I go from my Ishift to my Eaton Autoshift 18spd I keep forgetting to push that #### clutch pedal in.. LOL, and when I go to move the old girl, theres a #### stick in that one.. LOL definately easy to get into the habit of pulling out onto the highway and hitting resume on the cruise and leaning back turning up the radio and filling my mug with coffee as it gears up.

    i've driven a number of transmissions, 5&4, 6&4, 6&5, 4&4, 7, 9, 10, 13, 15, 18, & the 18 spd auto-shift. i screwed up 1 of those 18 auto shift's; but i'd love to have a fully automatic, no clutch. after 20 yrs of otr, i'm more than willing to try it & i'm sure i'll like it.

Second that! I just trained a green as grass driver, with no driving expirence whatsoever, and he even said that until he gets the 'driving' down, he would like to move onto the 18spd Autoshift, then onto the 13spd at some point, but it sure is nice to keep both hands on the wheel while learning how to maneouver around.

I love to read and hear the comments that "it ain't truckin, if your not shifting", in fact a number of my co-workers said that exact thing, until talking to some of my drivers about the Ishift, and what I say to anyone is, if your being paid X amount of dollars a day to do a job, and its not your 'lifestyle' and your truly there to earn just a paycheck and support the family, then why not earn the X amount of dollars as easy as you can? Thats just how I look at it, and its my opinion

Why does everyone think that driving a manual is so difficult. I had to drive a manual in CDL school and have been driving an autoshifter ever since. But I have no doubt in my mind that if I were to go to a manual, that it would be no big deal. Driving a truck and shifting is not rocket science guys!
