Miller brewery and glass out of waco. Its more than a 200 miles radius they cover i think, but most are in daycabs and a few freightliner regional trucks.

Had some thoughts lately about changing gears and maybe getting into trucking. I got one question tho, How did you break it to your wife /GF that you wanted to change careers and go from being home every night to starting this new career in which you will be making more money, but just not home no where near as much? Mine wants nothing to do with it cuz her dad drove OTR and was never home for part of her life growing up and she dont want that to happen with our "future" kids. Im looking to break the news to her that this is really what i wanna do for the time being right now, but i know what her answer is gonna be towards it. Any input would be great. Thanks

she wants nothing to do with that either. i tried to tell her it would be an "adventure" so to speak, but she just found a job that she loves and something she went to college for. She "dont wanna stare at pavement all day long". lol

Thats a tough one Donald. I think (newbie speaking) that family support is imperative to matain the family unit. It will be toughest on her. You will basically be a "rock star" not really living in reality but putting on "your show" everyday and everything else being taken care of for you. While she is at home taking care of the grind of life. Yes the money is good, but maintaining the family rests on "her" shoulders. If she is not with you in heart probably wont work.
Speaking from my perpective the road is addicting. Can't wait for the next load and always trying to streamline and improve on the previous weeks performance. Remember home will be the place you visit.
On the other hand regional gives you the opportunity to be home weekly or more. Money wont be the same but mre hometime. But the trade off with regional is less money, longer days. What good is being home after 14 hr workday and being too tired to do anything but eat and sleep.
Final say as always is yours. Think it through, weigh the pros and cons.
    Money isn't everything by a long shot................but it's nice ; )
    Just my 2 cents

    donaldrogers89 Thanks this.

Well put mojo. Thankfully I had full support before I made my leap. BTW I enjoyed your company while we was stuck in Toano.

It depends if you are using it as a means to an end or an end to a means. If you are doing it to get exp. to go to a local job she may be able to handle it for the year or so you need to get under you belt. Nothing wrong with doing that. If you are going to do OTR trucking as a career and she already has a problem with it then you are SOL one way or the other.
