    Ooh, people have pets on the sly? It doesn't surprise me. I'd be too nervous to try that, though, even if a cat is easier to hide than a dog.

    they must be on the sly but some people bring them out in the open. maybe as a leaser you can have pets idk

    Oh, that's true. I've heard that before.
    When US Xpress came to the school to recruit, I asked him if there was a weight limit or a number limit on pets allowed in the truck. Not a stupid question when your cat is 20 pounds. The whole class said at the same time, "Don't ask, don't tell!" I have a feeling a lot of that goes on.

    yeah im sure it does. personally i dont like stopping maybe once during my 10 to 11 hours driving so having a pet would too much of a hassle for me

    Yeah, I can see how you'd feel that way, especially if it's a dog who needs to go outside. Unless my cat really drops a bomb that I feel I need to scoop right away, I don't see stopping more for him than I would for myself.
    There's something quite nice about being responsible for just yourself, and no other creature. You don't have to wonder if that hotel or terminal is pet friendly, or if the cab's going to get too hot to leave the cat in there, or what you're going to do with the cat if the truck breaks down and you have to leave it at the shop for a few hours, or even if you can get a hold of that fancy grain free food he eats when you're in the middle of no where. Having a pet along sure does complicate things, but he's worth the trouble to me.

    As a new driver I just want to prepare you for what to expect. You will not be issued a new truck nor trailer. Very rarely would any company sacrifice a $200,000 set up for a newbie to play crash up derby with! However I highly recommend Central in that they have some of the best equipment out there and your chances of getting a really nice truck are pretty high. They did have a pet policy when we drove for them but not sure if they still do or not.

    APU's - Very few companies have them for the company drivers. RBI (Robert Bearden) out of GA is one company I know of for sure that does have them on all their trucks. Good company too! Central has them on a few trucks.

    Hair follicle testing - Very few companies do this. I would however recommend you do not ask this to the recruiter! A tylenol three is not going to show! An oxycodone habit will though!

    Just keep in mind that you are a newbie and very few of your demands will be met to start off with. Though yours aren't that far off track, I still wouldn't get your hopes up. Unfortunately you are, once again, a newbie, so you will have to put your time in and earn your wants and needs.

    With all this said, personally I would recommend Central only because I have driven for them and can see that they will come close to meeting your requirements. They also have a lot of female drivers so your chances of getting a female trainer would be pretty good. Also if you let us know where you reside we will be able to help you better. Robert Bearden is another good company but are out of GA. This won't help if you live in Ca.

    good post chompi. one thing i will add to that and i dont mean to contradict you is that one good thing with central and all these big companies is that mostly all the trucks are pretty new. i have one of the oldest trucks in our fleet but its only an 09 so at least with big companies you will have a decent ride

    i must say that if i lived in the hiring area then tmc or maverick would of bee n#1 and #2 on my list of companies that train. people think tmc is too strict but at least they take pride in the company and want their drivers to do the same
