Mid 90's so far this week, and real humid, sounds like ya'll are in another bad heat wave Wheathauler. Central Ky. got some really nice rains this past week, and another good rain tonight. I think it's too late to help the corn around here, but should be good on the beans.Wish everyone could get some relief from this summer/drought. Been hauling ddg's,and transfering some corn.

It's not been too bad, Mrs.BHW,but it's all been short local runs back to local mills,so not much problem with it packing. But i can be a bear if it's loaded hot and sits long,as i'm sure ya'll know:biggrin_25521:. How's hubby doing, still running the same gig?

Yeah, we did a "hot" load once, and ONLY once. LOL PITA to say the least.

Yeah, he's still a flatbedder running local. Loving it. We bought a trailer a couple months ago and looking at a second one to add to the mix. The other drivers doing power only are NOT watching the trailers, seems hubby is the only one catching the issues with them, and its costing us time and money. So it would be cheaper for us to maintain and have two trailers for him to drop and hook.

You staying busy then? Are the rates getting any better in the hopper end?

2 trailers for drop and hook,

Sounds like a plan:yes2557:,glad he is still likeing pulling the flat,if he's still running local that means he's probably getting to eat home-cooked meals,so it's good that he's gett'n the extra exercise from skateboarding:biggrin_2559:

As for staying busy,it's not been too bad,i'm a little surprised actually,i thought with the drought it would be awfull, but so many of my direct customers(dairies/chicken farms/feed mills) are switching to different ingredients from week to week,i've been keeping fairly busy(for now). Rates are ok,but nothing to brag about. Not gona be much of a harvest here,so i'm trying to keep my direct customers happy. Thanks for asking. Ya'll getting any rain up your way?

We've seen nothing as far as precipitation. The rivers are drying up here. Scary stuff, especially after last years flooding. This is just crazy.

I don't think that we will have a corn harvest here. I think that the water table is pretty much non existent and things are only going to get worse. I really feel for the farmers around here. Its sad seeing the corn shrivel in the fields. I cannot imagine what they are feeling. :biggrin_2553:

Yeah,i know what you mean. I've got a couple of younger farmers i haul for at harvest that are both saying they have been doing field checks on their corn and only about 20% pollinated,so corn is a bust here, they think the rains last week are gona save their beans though,so that's good, and with the price of beans they should be alright since neither of them forward contracted their beans,i may have to up-grade my cargo ins. to cover some of the bean loads:biggrin_2554:. I'm wondering, has anybody heard how barge traffic is moving around the big river? I'm starting to hear stories coming out of St.Louis.
