My wife and I are selling our business and are trying to find something to do with ourselves. We considered trucking but wanted to get the real scoop from actual drivers before we start school for it. Here is where we are at:

I'm 25, she is 27. No kids, just got an apartment in Dallas, but willing to relocate. Our previous job required driving all over the country so we are no strangers to road life.

We would be looking to drive team together and would want all the miles we could get. We looked at Schneider and they seem legit, but my wife wants to know what kind of money we can expect to make going balls to the wall (excuse the language). We could clear 1,000 miles a day easy, but is there that much out there to be had?

Thanks in advance for the info.

There is a big demand for teams and it is growing. That being said you two need to lock yourselves in a small bathroom for 4 hour periods @ a time and then allow yourselves 30 minute breaks. I'm not sure how much either of you will enjoy it....try it for a few weeks.

Good experienced teams are making .50 cpm total and do between 200,000 and 300,000 miles per year. New teams won't initially make that but they should move up the ranks quickly if they are safe and on time.

For the last 2 years we have regularly drove from Dallas to Miami and Dallas to Seattle and back in an E150, lol. We love being together and driving, so no worries there.

Any companies you could recommend for serious team miles?

And you stopped when you wanted, slept in motels and ate good quality food>all of which you won't get in the trucking industry.

Can be ~ like any business if you get the funny business it is not funny - what I see is a lot of posts here by people who are making it, followed also by complainers of one kind or another .... my controller tells me truckers can make $ but tend to mis-manage bad enough that you hear them complaining about not making it, and for sure there is no shortage of O/O that have legit gripes

I for one will not be doing the school thing as I do not need what I have seen from those, I will go direct to frackwater tanker operations, accepting someone a few rungs down the ladder to get major buckos on heavy hours,.....Schneider National just took away a bunch of Suncoast's Halliburton contract, so much so they have a dozen or so people in the yard in the morning awaiting a truck to drive.....

We have several people who have invested in contemporary education now posting here to actually go to work. On thing you can do is write some companies and ask

Are you really Hazardous?....I am not especially safety-conscious but I see things like that and keep a buffer-zone if needed

edit: thank you for the name clarification

    edit: try this

We actually had to drive straight through. We did crime scene cleanup, so we had to book it to get to jobs before competitors.

I also chose the name due to the hazardous work we used to do. No worries about my safety. :)

We don't want to do this for leisure, or to see the country. We want to kick butt and make money.

No need to ask people to excuse your language.

The phrase "balls to the wall" is a term used by fighter pilots in WWII, referring to running their fighters at full throttle. The control lever for their throttle had 2 marble sized balls on the end, helping them grip it while wearing gloves. Putting the balls to the wall, was simply pushing the balls forward, till the couldn't go any further, being stopped by the ####pit's front firewall. Not sexual reference in any way, though our modern day society likes to think that way about everything.

Driving long distances together for 2 days at a time, several times a month is nothing like the lifestyle of a true "team" in today's world. If you can seriously imagine keeping the wheels rolling a minimum of 20 hours a day, 25 days a month, this might be a good fit for you, otherwise, it will beat you to a pulp inside of of the first 4 months of real teaming. Not to mention the "training phase" is enough to wash most out. That being said, a husband-wife team who are cut out for the lifestyle and can get with the right carrier can retire to Mexico following 10 years of 250k miles each. But again, so much depends where a team works as to how successful they will be.

What's the "training" phase all about? And the question of carriers is something else I would like to ask.

Who is best for teams with zero experience?
