Hey Seawheeler I have a couple more questions for you. What is the schedule like for the weekend between orientation and securement training, free time all weekend or classes? Also, what is the schedule between securement training and glass? Will I be able to get myself to NC the same as I'm going to do for LR or will they just put me on the bus period? I'm curious about the first weekend because my family may make the drive up to visit with me.

Thank you everyone for your contributions to the thread!
Much respect goes out to ALL pro drivers, but a special hat tip the glass game carriers!
I graduate CDL school next Friday with test out on Saturday.
I've been pre-hired at Con-Way, Werner, and TMC. Yesterday afternoon I sent in an app to Maverick after meeting a recruiter here in Sterling Heights MI on Thursday!
I must say that it was the best presentation out of everyone that I've seen. He spoke of the good but also made sure the greatly emphasize the possible bad. (3'rd week out, not the greatest tarp pay, extra week of training for glass, how sometimes you get bumped in terms of your 800 guarantee) I know that this may sound like he was negative....BUT HE WASNT! I am one of those guys that hate all of the pretty gum drops, money falling from the sky, "best case scenario" recruiters out there! Tell me straight, and let me make an informed/balanced decision!
Long story short, I though over his presentation for 24 hours and decided to apply.
I spoke with someone from the Rock. They reviewed my info, answered questions, further explained the different divisions etc.
They have begun my back ground check and I am supposed to have an answer around next Friday. #### am I excited!
At 32, I've been in the restaurant industry for 21 years. I've been managing since 17 so I really do appreciate and understand the concept of hard work, time management, seeing the positive etc. Having learned how to work well with other and manage relationships, I am hoping I can take that knowledge into this industry.
Seawheeler.....are you still happy? (PM me plz if you dont mind)
How did all of the down time with an 07' rig/bogus trailers hit your pocket?
I hope to be contributing to this thread soon.....and really hope to be the 1 in 10 that make it! (in reference to the 90/10 post)
Thanks everyone for your time! (and thank you for being open and helpful to us FNG's) -
Bishop73 Thanks this.

As for my truck, that something you probably won't have to worry about as most the new drivers are getting brand new trucks! They are really sweet. Even with all the issues I didn't loose out on too many miles, just had more headaches.
Good luck with who ever you choose, your doing the right thing by checking them all out. -
Headed to LRock this Friday for orientation.....if all goes well, headed for the glass division. Thanks seawheeler for the info about your experience getting started in the glass division, very good information. Not much out there about the glass division. Your thread gave me a good inside look at what to expect, complete with pics
Look forward to joining Maverick.
seawheeler Thanks this. -
Hi everyone. My husband is in the process of being hired in the glass division and I was hoping to get a little advice here.
My husband is Middle Eastern and I'm wondering how this will work out for him at Mavrick. He is very social and people
really like him at his current job but were in Chicago where almost everyone is an immigrant.
I know Mavrick is his top pick and its great for new drivers but is it a good place for his situation ? -
