Where are all the "new regs" you guys are crying about? The HOS has changed (or attempted to be changed) 5 times since I've been driving. What are these "new regs?
But you are correct on one point..."safer and drivers were better"....that isn't an issue with regs, that falls more to the lack of regulation on what needs to be taught right from the start! One can get a CDL in "ONE DAY" in any state right now...just pass the written tests and rent a rig (not even a full sized unit...an air brake 5th wheel will comply for a road examination). There is one of the problems...and the fact that these "youngsters" don't have a clue about even driving safely in a 4 wheeler before they climb up in a big rig......talk about the blind leading the blind!
Why CSA 2010 and E-Logs are a good thing.

This thread is about CSA and E-logs....yet so many "old timers" shout out "NEW REGS"!!!
CSA was supposed to level the penalty field with companies and drivers...penalizing both when an infraction occurs....E-logs does force a driver to be compliant, but only to the point of being caught more readily by the company or a scale. Compared to a paper log being able to "doctor" to get past a scale, so to speak. And HOS changes/challenges are about a difference between mainly split sleeper qualifications and use by a log. Now CSA on the otherhand...should actually take outfits like DAC/Hirerite out of the picture with a "supposedly legitimate" history of a driver.
What's the big deal...especially if you run legal to begin with! Those that are crying foul, probably couldn't run legal if their lives depended on it...but their livlihood does...and it's hurting them to have to play on a playing field that doesn't reward cheating! -
CSA 2010 did not enact any new regs. They just found ways to make them bite harder.
Makes no difference to me.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
3 weeks ago i did a delivery to a retired delta pilot. his version of how the system worked are totally opposite of your story.
the box monitors the plane. it don't run the plane. it has a computer just like our trucks do. and they were still doing logs on paper. no clocking into a qualcomm.
all outta tinfoil. you guys will have to buy your own. it's not on my list of things i need any time soon. -
Get real! The truck system monitors all aspects of the truck...not the driver!
so your retired delta pilot...is he the same one that called Harry with Romney's tax info? -
I read an article a few months ago that stated that since Obama has been in office that they have added over 13,000 new regulations to the trucking industry. If true, I don't think that all of them are related to hos.
