I've been driving TT local( little OTR when I was a mover) for about 3 years. For the longest I've been hearing how much money you can make driving as a team out there so I'm trying to figure out what's the best place to start at or where to begin. My wife has no experience at all. Buying a truck and being a OO crossed my mind a little, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be the best idea as a start. Is that a possibility to go work for a company and teach her myself or would she have to do the whole "6 week thing with a trainer" on the road, or would it be like the 2 of us and a trainer in a truck for 6 weeks? I know companies go drooling over teams, so which are some good reputable ones that would take this situation in consideration? We both have clean driving records. The wife DOES NOT have a CDL. Any advice and info is much appreciated. Thanks!

Dextrdog, Covenant Transport allows one driver to train the other. Don't know all details but I do know she will have to have cdl obviously. I think it's about 5-6 weeks then she can test up to next level. But all the teaming will be just you guys no outside trainer.

I would look into Conway Truckload ...yes i do run team for them (not with my spouse yet) they have a very good school near Joplin Mo. ...its called Crowder there is alot of good threads under Conway truckload....i think its a 4 week school room and 3 meals a day....after that its 10K miles with a trainer ...student drives ALL the miles....trainer only drives if an appt or such requires it....so around 4 weeks out ...can be less if they avg more than 2500 mi a week.....

You can train your wife but you would have to go thru trainer/trainee classes first.Think its like 3 days long.

Depends on the company you're driving for and if they are team orientated. All your team companies are going to run you into the ground and RUN HARD.Now on the amt of money thing that depends on who you're running for. Some pay better then others.

So your wife has no experience....I will pass on the obvious remark.

As a spouse team, you are the gold goose that companies look for. You will keep a truck running all the time. You just need to make sure you get the most you can. You should be able to write your own ticket.

The best part of driving as a team with your wife is that there is no back seat in a tractor. :biggrin_25519:

How is she at driving a normal car?

Has she ever pulled and backed up a trailer, successfully?

Team driving can be easier as you always have someone to help you out when in a jam. Directions, backing into a tight spot, mentally dealing with daily stress.

I would ask also how well you both get along under pressure? The cab of a truck will get awfully small. Do you two function well as a team at home?
