I need you here too, LOL; the honey do's are piling up. I had the front tire on the John Deere go bad, bad, and had to take it in to have a new one put on the rim today. Pulled up videos on the internet to see how to get it off. So now it is fixed and if it quits raining back to mowing; we have 3 acres and now I wish we had a cow.

If you read that will help to pass the time when you are off, esp the 34's. Try to find a spot that is an actual truck stop with TV if you feel like bumming around inside some. Get some movies to watch on the computer. We swiped my grandson's SpongeBob TV which was small a few years ago before they went to all this new version stations. Sometimes I could get an air channel on and watch a little tv and catch the news in that area if nothing else while a load was being done or on the 34; don't reckon that is going to happen now though.

The satellite Sirius radio is great husband says now, he listened to a car race Sunday. He had to buy a larger antenna than it came with to get it to work, esp in the mountains and dessert areas.

Have a good phone plan with the family line and a good blue tooth; it will keep you connected to your wife even if you are a million miles away. Just be careful if you can't talk and drive at the same time. I think we talk more on the phone now than we ever did in person.

And get ready for the aggravation and take a chill pill; there is always that load that was supposed to be ready and then isn't for 6hrs; the Walmart load that changed the appointment time to the next day after you busted your ##### getting there on time; stuck in Atlanta traffic going slowly around the circle, etc.

Just be careful, study the maps and map it in your mind to save confusion later and be safe.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and words of advice.
Got with my finisher in Taylor yesterday around 1400.
Waited around for about ten hours and finally got a load.
Just a short 180 mile run with an 0600 drop, but it was immediately followed up with a 2200 mile run to Calexco. Dispatch said take the junk and he'd drop the nice one for us.....ummmm thanks!
My finisher seems great so far. Personable, open, friendly. Cant ask for more.

I have two small ones and could get a home everyday schedule load that pays $80 grand but choose not to. I make a little bit more running the road all week but I'd do it for less because it's who I am. I loved this profession when I started it and don't feel any different over 20 years later.

Hang on man. Don't worry yourself to death. You don't control all things. Breath.

Just remember those kids are growing up fast, but I know that a decent salary is important too to keep the house supported.

We went on the road when my one grandson was barely a week old; would come home about every 3 mo so we would see him then. He grew up so fast and I didn't get to see it, guess that is the mommy in me. Of course we didn't stay in it when trucking went down in 2009; husband got back into it in 2011 but I am at home. We have twin grand daughters who were 4 mo old when we lost our other job and I have been home since helping my daughter, they are about 19 mo old now and they are part of me.

Good luck, even though small miles add up some weeks and it gives you a chance to get your feet wet. Hope you have a good safe trip.

One thing I have not seen mentioned on any of the blogs is to make sure you are careful in areas that have high winds like in the CO areas. Winds pick up higher at night than they do during the day. Husband was held up about 4 days in Denver area this spring when they had snow and ice and high winds. He waited till the next day to go after the roads were finally opened where he needed to cross and they came across 5 trucks, who most likely left the night before, flipped over in the ditches where wind gusts caught them.
