Its hard for me to believe there are over 3 million truck drivers and none of them are color blind in the least..

Go get a DOT physical on your own. $25.00. They do a quick little test of red, green, yellow. If you pass, keep the long form. Give it to the people your applying for. I doubt they will pay for another if you have the long form.
If you haul Hazmat, you need to be able to tell if your placards are correct. That would be big trouble if that got screwed up.

i guess you missed my post, i AM colorblind. at the dot test they will show the red green on the eye chart, or either red or green light. if its a big deal go take a dot physical beforehand. as long as you can see red/ green lights you should have no problem.

I am assuming that they ask you to pick out the colors while looking into the microscope type vision tester, like they do here at home, but it is my understanding that if you have trouble using the microscope tester, you are allowed to use the old fashioned wall chart, which have straight single color strips, whereas the microscope tester has the colors mixed together in each color image. Ask if you can take the vision test using the wall chart. You might google this topic and find the law concerning this.

I plan on running team with my wife .. we have a while till this happens .. My wife is not color blind.. But I dont think I would have any problem with the placards..

I just keep thinking I have been driving for nearly 30 yrs day, night, snow, ice, rain storms, and to date it has never been an issue.. I stop at red lights most of the time :) seriously and I ca see to go and that it is green .. and I know to gas it when its yellow cause RED is coming .. J/K

I can tell a stop sign is green .. J/K again .. LOL

I dont think in this day and age we should judge a driver by his ability to judge others by their color.

The standard DOT physical does not have color vision test. The standard Department of Motor Vehicle test does have color vision as part of it.

It sounds a lot like it depends are where you go take the DOT Physical at.. seems very random from the replies so far..

If you fail a DOT Physical can you take another some where else and how long do you have to wait ?
