Section 3 of the long form requires the doctor completing the evaluation to certify that "Applicant can recognize and distinguish among traffic control signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber colors"

In other words, if the doctor performing the examination did not do some form of check to ensure that you meet this requirement, they did not honestly and accurately complete the form.

surely you know I was joking ... I have a very clean driving record.. never a dui or dwi ever.. never been involved in a injury accident .. a few minor fender benders over the years nothing major ..I drive a company vehicle daily plus back and forth to work .. I rarely even drive my personal vehicle .. so my driving has to be good or I wouldn't have a license or job long..

I'm a Heating and A/C Service Tech and have been for the past 20 yrs.. the last 12 at the same company

The FMCSA is in the process of requiring the doctors who perform DOT Physicals to register with FMCSA, they already have the website up. Once the doctors are registered, they will be required to notify FMCSA of every driver that comes in and gets a DOT physical pass or fail, this is supposedly to eliminate the driver that would fail a physical at one place, then just go to a different doctor, until he found one that will pass him. This information was on the ooida landline site. What I don't understand is, just how many doctors do they think are going to jump through government hoops to give a DOT Physical, unless it becomes "well worth there while". Another government program to fix another problem that didn't exist??

I would say my 30 yr driving record should speak to that fact..IMO which aint worth a lot..

Other than the color blindness issue I have very good vision especially being 49.. I have just started needing to use cheaters on fine print occasionally..

    Medical Experts Panel...

Page 28 explains they will test you with a picture or device similar to a traffic signal light. If you can distinguish which light is which then they will pass you. By MUTCD standards require the colors go left to right and top to bottom (RYG) which you already know.

I am classified as having red green color blindness, however, in my military and then government employment, all i had to tell the doctor/examiner was i could not take the color chart test and DOT allows you a secondary testing method. I have been tested with strips of yarn, magic marker drawn on a piece of paper, and other picture/solid color tests. I have passed all with no problems. It has something to do with the way your brain interprets the little dots on the test. I have been told that about 3 percent of men cannot pass the dot/matrix test.

Thats me I can see solid colors fine .. its when you start mixing them in little dots I start having a problem .. I can see a traffic lights colors no problem .. but these little dotted # images kill me..I can see some and others I couldnt to save my life.. I would probably be in that 3%

I just took my DOT physical today and it was just solid strips of color. It wasn't the one I got in the army with the dot numbers hidden in the image. Just real simple he pointed what color is this red green yellow. If you can see that I would imagine you would be good. They didn't seem that strict I was starring at a computer for 4hrs then go called in and started the vision test and the hole board went blurry on me LOL he said don't worry about it if you can see up to this line your good. He gave me a chance for my eyes to focus and all was good. By the way the minimum line you have to read the letters are huge! just saying!
