So, TA is advertising a sale on 8 Chinese drives all-in for $2999. Jump on it, or pass? Why or why not?

Poor. I had a brand new one mounted for the trailer and it spun out of round on the balance machine. Off it came and on went a yoko.

Step back and find better rubber, all are 14 ply and look nasty after they blow off or do not hold air after 50k miles or so.

You're better off just spending the money up front on good tires, what you save now will end up costing later on down the road.... I learned the hard way..

2 words that should never be in the same sentence: "chinese" and "quality"

Had someone running questionable tires, after the cost savings of the tires one committed suicide. It tore off a custom mudflap hanger which could only be purchased in pairs and the mudflap.

The tire cost him 275.00 more for the damages done when it blew out for no reason what so ever, low air etc.

It would be a cold, cold day in hell before I would ever purchase a retread.

I agree. It's a good link because it shows popular new tire RR numbers and a few common retreads. Checking the RR on a tire seems to get quickly overlooked and that will cost you the life of the tire.

the biggest expense with tires isn't whether you can save $50 on tire A vs. tire B. the biggest expense is when you blow out on the side of the road and miss an appointment or get set back a day. Buy high quality long lasting tires and keep them at the correct pressure. better fuel mileage, less downtime, longer lasting, etc... there's plenty of ways to save money on trucks, but low cost tires isn't one of them.
