Have you ever priced a factoring company? Because CRST does that as well. This load I'm hauling, I'm getting paid for it next week. CRST might see that money a month from now.
The lease contract spells out EXACTLY what you get, they tell you at orientation exactly what to expect (least they did to me). Getting your own authority isn't about the cost, it's about the time and paperwork involved. It's about the compliance required to satisfy the fmcsa. As I said, don't like it, get your own authority, your own customers, and your own operating budget to keeo you running when they don't pay for 30 days or more. No one twisted your arm to lease on.

I guess I made a mistake who do you drive for Les2? And 4,000 post 1,000 a year is normal ? and the my daddy and my uncle said is normal for a grown man Yeah right! this is a baby that has no job! If you do Les2 I am sorry and will retract my post so again who do you drive for?
danmissouri Thanks this. -
Les2, 25% of the gross isn't bad, what's wrong with the company making some money? Schneider National will charge you 33% to pick your own loads. By the way, it would be nice if Les1 would teach you to be alittle more respectful. Maybe you should spend a little less time "kicked back in your LAZYBOY" and go out and get some exercise.

What you don't understand, is there is a lot of paperwork involved in owning a truck, period. You don't know this, yet. CRST handles everything for you, IFTA, plates, and HUT.
BTW I didn't lease on to CRST, my dad did, against my advice. I told him what was gonna happen and it did.
You've been in this business a while I see and you know how things used to be. Back then 25% was an ok amount to take but now, its a little too much IMO.
As for respect, that is something that is earned not just given. I'll give gravdigr credit for his go get em attitude, but it also can be a major downfall. -
son I pay my own primary liability cargo and physical damage insurance so yes I do know what it costs. I also file and pay my own IFTA taxes along with my base plate and heavy vehicle use tax. I do not get paid every week or twice a week like a lot of people do,I haul direct for a shipper and they pay on the 1st and 15th of each month. I have no fuel discounts tire or repair discounts and I pay cash for almost everything can you do the same? My point was the best way to go is to lease to a large carrier you will find out someday if you ever get in a large lawsuit that by being leased to a large carrier will be able to afford a much better team of defense lawyers than one man on his own can. Remember this Justice has its price it just depends on how much justice you can afford.

I think Gravedigr is doing the right thing by being agressive, and making things happen. Myself I am aginst lease purchase but it does work out for some.I think it is gonna work out for him because he does not sit around and whine.I am no big fan of CRST_Malone but i will say this they do not torture you I sat at home one time many years ago for 6 months and 3 days before they called to see what I was up to how many trucking companies will let a man get away with that?
-
LOL at ^^^^, 6 months and they never called?
It's all a means to an end my friend. I wanted to start trucking. I went to a cdl mill and joined a megacarrier, most people on the forums say it's a recipe for disaster. I put effort into it and made it work, making $38k in my year with that megacarrier. I used that experience to work on going flatbed and running my own truck, guess what? I'm doing flatbed work and running my own truck. Come Jan. I plan on doing my own IFTA (malone will let you do that if you choose). Once I learn the ropes, own my truck, and have a nice financial safety net I plan on getting my own authority and some direct shippers (not necessarily in that order). I made a plan and set goals over a year ago, I have modified that plan a bit here and there but the goals remain the same. I have the drive, willpower, and intelligence to make it work. I have the resources for all the information I need (this forum not the least of them), it's just a matter of putting my learning to work with real world experience.danmissouri Thanks this. -
dont be in any big rush to get authority it just might be better to stay leased to a company . I have friends at mercer ,packard CRST_Malone Kaplan Mawson and Mawson and Allegheny plant services ( which just got taken over by Bennitt) and they all do just fine.On the other haND i HAVE FRIENDS WITH AUTHORITY and they struggle one of them has six trucks and trailers and steady runs to Seattle and back to the Philly area and has been doing the same thing for 25 years and he is always cash starved, At any given time he has 250000 dollars owed to him by his steady customers He is always the last one to get paid,He will bill someone 8000 dollars and recieve a check 60 days later from them for 1500 and a note saying we will send more next time. It is not all that easy
Les2 Thanks this. -
Hey gravdigr
What did the log test at orientation consist of? any trick questions? I think you are on the right path to doing what you want. Will power and drive will get you a long way.
