That's what I thought. I couldn't think of any rules in CVSA or the Fed regs regarding facilities.
We do have rules (G.O.'s) for the State Highway Patrol where I am employed with gives minimum requirements where I can place a vehicle OOS. Due to falling budgets, the state wants to take away the restroom facilities at a scale where trucks are placed OOS. I just want to keep those facilities for drivers who are placed OOS. There may not be anywhere in the regs I can go - but I can go to our General Orders that the Patrol operates under.
And when I place a driver OOS, he cannot operate a commercial motor vehicle. He CAN operate a vehicle that does not qualify as a commercial vehicle (intrastate 26001 lbs or more gvw or Interstate 10001 lbs or more. ) So for instance, if someone brings him a pickup truck with a GVW or 10,000 pounds, he can drive away.RickG and lonelyswmtrucker Thank this. -
If a driver is in violation and decides to take a nap on a ramp or shoulder it is understandable to have an LEO escort the driver to a safe parking area. -
And the facilities are handy also in areas where there are not many truckstops or places to stop safely. You can find a scale most generally on any trip, easy in and out; so I think all scales should be mandatory to have them located there. -
Any driver should have their truck stocked to survive three days if need be. You never know what will happen. Oos, weather, breakdown, stuck at a customer... Like a boy scout, be prepared! Then it isn't so bad.

Condo is absolutely right as usual. Peanut butter and jelly will last with refrigeration. spam also is a good choice. In sand hauling you can be in the middle of nowhere just to do your job ! just my two pennies

If you maintain your vehicle in the prescribed manner and do not violate the federal HOS regulations, then the question is moot.
If you choose to violate the law, then be prepared to sit somewhere other than Bellagio Hotel.NavigatorWife, CondoCruiser and Busasamurai Thank this. -
