Yes and it won't give you any more power. Useless trick. Actually, it might make it respond slower because you are quenching the fire with excess fuel.

its not to much about power its more about the smoke... i remember on my 3406E cat they sold an inline resistor to the fuel temp solenoid which would make for quite the smoke show when the know was turned up at idle you would REV or pulling thru a low gear it would do it.
im just looking for a lil smoke show? will this make that happen is what i am asking i reside in FL so smoke tests and emissions dont exsist here. -
the power was added thru the fuel/torque set screws on the lower part of the pump.
SEMI CRAZY when you wrote this?
"Or you could chop the end off the AFRC but you'd still have the diaphragm to worry about. "
wouldnt the diaphragm just stay in pump and
NOT engage or disengage since there will be no intake vaccum boost line connected to it?
this is essentially to my understanding taking away regulation of fuel to the pump thus letting dump fuel upon pressing the throttle instead of when boost is built correct?Last edited: Aug 18, 2012

help im outside about to cut this thing but i dont wat to cut it wrong, this way i can put it together and give her a try.
-
Yes, it allows rack to travel to full open without the needed boost, with the end of the rod off you don't even have to disconnect the boost line.
If this is a road truck I would not disable the afc, it will draw attention to your truck, if you want to do a test remove the cover off the afc with the engine running and push the limiter towards the front of the engine, and actuate the throttle. You will be able to see the difference. -
smokincat its a intrastate road truck my longest trip doesnt go more then 400 miles one way within FL , i dont have to goto any other state.

I understand, it's really up to you, mainly all you will gain is off idle response and it may not even be that noticeable.

by cutting the nailhead offf the limiter it will no longer make contact with the diapragm inside pump so how would the comparisson of taking off rear AFRC cover and pushing in against the diapgragm be the same results?
if i cut nailhead off im basically not pushing in diagragm thus i wont make it smoke? wouldnt it be better to put something to push valve by the inside of the rear AFRC cover so that its constantly pushing the valve in towards the diaphram, wouldnt this be the correct mod instead of cutting it off? -
what does the AFRC cost new? is there a way just to unscrew nailhead from the AFRC body? it looks to be like 2 parts?
are these AFRC still offered by CAT and aftermarket? -
well i decided to a lil test myself i was able to seperate the nailhead part from the rest of the AFRC..... yup i didnt cut it off i just took it off, now behind this nailhead piece seems to screw into a passage way for oil to come thru, with 4 little holes all around the base of the nailhead piece. at first i was just going to plug it with a bolt but then when i noticed oil flowed thru it, i simply left it open so that the oil will spew out maybe not out of the intended small holes from the nailhead piece but it will still come out of valve with out topping off pressure.
the reason why i did it this way was to not damage or modify original AFRC just in case i wanted to go back to the way she was running before i can just rethread nailhead piece back into AFRC and turn in my torque and fuel screw settings just in case, with cutting off the head i wouldnt have been able to do so only by re welding the part that was cutoff to the AFRC piece.
i am going to do a road test now to see the difference she blows smoke but only when you rev it up somewhat higher then 1k rpms anything under that she burns clean, and if you double tap the pedal she will billow out a nice bush of smoke. now its time to see how she smokes on the road under load or pulling conditions lets see.
this sure is fun after getting into it.
