My first two weeks out solo driving were good to me. I was staying busy with 900, 1300, 1100, 1600, 2500 mile runs.. Everything has been on time, and I've not had any service failures, nor log book violations. The last month has been killinf me though. They give me runs with 1.5 to 2 days sit time before delivery...deny me the chance to Tcall them, as well. Getting short runs more and more often. I'm trying to stay cool, while accepting what they give me...I stay proactive about getting another load lined up, but tend to sit waiting for that "next load." It's getting to be frustrating.
I asked my DM if I have done anything wrong, and he says that I am doing everything right. What do you guys think I should do to get lined up on some better runs?
Will it get better?

deal with it for a year then move on.
we've all had to do it.NoBluffBuff and RizenPhoenix Thank this. -
You can try contacting the consignee and let them know you will be in the area early and can deliver. You would be surprised how many will accept it early.
capthook, NoBluffBuff and A21CAV Thank this. -
I've been getting the same thing lately, 700-800 mile runs with 3 days to do them. Lots of sitting and waiting. I have also been getting more loads with directions that say NOT to call about an earlier delivery or Swift will lose the account.
NoBluffBuff Thanks this. -
@Shootthis & Dagger...both mentioned something that crossed my mind. I was told by my mentor to never contact the reciever directly about this, though it is very tempting to consider.

freight seems to be slow across the board in most markets hopefully it will come back.
as for calling the shipper, when i was at swift i always did but be nice and don't be pushy, most of the time they will take you early, -
My DM sent a message last week for drivers to be patient because freight was slow everywhere.
I may sit for a day or two each week, but my miles have been averaging around 2500 for the past few weeks. -
Cycles. You have to deal with 'em.
Just like being married. -
I've had three loads this week, all the same thing. All about 600 miles and have to sit about 12-34 hours before delivery. Like someone said freight is slow acrossed the board. Take it as an opportunity to get some cleaning done on your truck. Get organized yada yada. That way you are ready to roll when ya get yer next load.
