If you are all cash in, and no debt, then i think you will be able to do ok. With the back up $187,000 you should be fine. I would also suggest selling the 2 houses if you can get a good price for them and maybe get yourself a nice apt or condo since you will be on the road for a while. Maintaining a yard and other stuff on 2 houses will be very hard while driving a truck. Plus you will be letting all that money collect intrest...... I'm very glad to hear you bought used equipment first. Most guys that come into money and buy trucks get all brand new stuff and have nothing left over in the end. You are the right track, just keep your witts about you and you'll do fine.

Another suggestion is maybe lease on with Landstar??? That is about as close to being independant as you can get w/o going all the way in. Learn the business and make good with some agents. Landstar also has plenty of ways to help you along the way and give advice on operating your business... then after you get comfortable, leave and go it at your own if you want. Just a way to get into the game withour laying all your cards on the table as a newbie.

Hell im bailing out of the O/O status as of Monday after 38 yrs. I made great money at it and u should if you follow alot of what we all say. My reason for bailing is plain and simple if these NEW laws are enacted its death in my books to a single truck O/O or small company. Talked to a DOT cop friend of mine and he told me straight up that this new eobr law will hurt guys like us and its a reality and the points brought up here is true how do u tell a broker my elog says I can drive only this many hours. That and I lost 2 brokers in the last month due to the economy and rates also factored into my decision. Trust me it was a hard decision but I cant buck the system anymore and so for me its a cost effect move and now ill either relax or join a company that gets me home on weekends. I wish u well in your sucess and hope u do it as long as I did.RW

Enjoy your retirement RW, that is if you don;t get the itch and go to a company that gets you home weekends. Hey, if you decide to hang it up for good - not trucking at all - and would like to donate that W9 to a driver who will take really good care of it I'll be glad to take it off your hands. :-D

See you'll be back in the game again before you know it - you're already waxin nostalgia here LoL.. Glad you got it sold.. I was a little worried that you was thinking I wanted to "buy" them if the deal fell thru LoL. I said "donate". I'm a needy trucker and it would have been a good cause. Too late now but think about it - you could have taken a big charitable donation tax writeoff that way :) I'll tell him, good luck bro.
