I-pass / EZ-Pass / I-Zoom transponder question

I would be worried about a plate mounted unit being damaged to easily. I wouldn't think the wipers would have any effect on the unit mounted there.

 

I always put mine in the center and it worked fine dont worry about the wipers.

 

they should probably make a stronger transponder. That way anyone could keep there I/EZ/ZOOM/BEST/K Pass like in the glove box so people like me aren't tempted to steal yours when I head to Chicago and don't wanna pay tolls.

I had a license plate mounted style. It worked just fine for the 3 years I had it until someone stole it off my truck while at a truckstop. Back then, I used park at a secured company yard and never used a truckstop as we had fuel and I ran a 9-5 route. But one day I got stuck doing a regional run to Cleveland. i parked at the tollway oasis in Ohio and when I went to go thru a tollgate on the skyway in Chicago, it didn't work (OH and IN didn't have electronic tolls back then). I paid cash and got back to the yard and noticed it had been removed.

I now have just the plain windshield mount one and have no problems with it. I too have had to move mine a few times to get it into a spot that works best, and it is in the middle of my split windshild, near the bottom with the windshiled wipers as well. I 1st put it to the edge and wouldn't pick up. I moved it to the top of the windshield but my metal sin visor seamed to block it....

I do know a few companies who use the bumper-mounted transponders. Most of them park their trucks at their own yards at night (UPS/FEDEX/CON-WAY) but I have also seen a few guys who have rivited them to their bumper, thus making it almost impossiable to steal it.

 

Go to autozone and you can buy the torx bolts with the nub in the middle that require the special tool to remove. Granted a theif could just get the tool as well, but it's going to slow them down and they will most likely not even bother with it and move on.
