OVER SECURE EVERY THING IS THE WAY TO GO...specially FOR ALL IDITS OUT THERE,,DONT WANT YOUR LOAD MOVING ...(defensive driving) AS FOR THE RUSH JOB CAUSE OF THE LINE BEHIND YOU..THROW 2 ON,FINSH UP OUT OF THE WAY...AS FOR THE OTHER ##*H***'S..THAT WANT TO RUSH U..PUT THEM IN THERE PLACE...SOME OF THESE GUYS LOST RESPECT FOR THE LOAD..& HOW EASY IT IS FOR THESE CHAINS TO SNAP...WORST PART IS THE WAITTING GAME...

Agreed, I can't tell how hard my brakes are on with this truck... the "ABRK APP PSI" gauge doesn't work. Random guess.

2 20k pound coils loaded shotgun.

Lazy guy: use straps. Pros: Quick securement, quick pack up. Cons: ...it can and will slide out from under the straps, that tarp won't do much to stop it.

Me: 2 horseshoe, 2 crosses, 2 straps + timbers and friction mats.

    CAXPT Thanks this.

    YUP!

you do your coils how i do mine as far as big ones shotgun style. 2 horse shoe, 2 x, and 2 straps. I usually use one strap per 10k lbs of coil, 2 strap minimum.

Then try the correct amount.....? For some reason you guys think that if you don't over secure it, its under secured... thats not the case.

This depends on the state you are in. Ohio is completely different.

I think I just wanted to Thank this post again.? Most of these guys have no clue what it takes to actually move a coil.

You missed the point, but I think The Admiral summed it up pretty good below.

Thanks again! If these new guys wouldn't always be a day late and a dollar short they wouldn't have to be in such a hurry and we probably wouldn't have all these stupid laws.

I perfer shotgun with 4 chains. 2 chains cris crossing through center and 2 chains horse shoe on each side with a strap over the top with a piece of carpet as a edge pertector.maybe 2 straps over top depending on weight. the more chains and straps the less attention you will get from DOT

    CAT scaled my empty weight.

WOW, Light weight... I have a Benson 53 footer all aluminium being tugged by a 07 9400i with aluminium replacing metal/steel where possible.

16,965 without me in the cab.

I agree to a point with the Admiral, Ive seen older and new drivers make the same mistakes #1 is rushing the job and taking shortcuts Ive seen coils leave the shippers with only 2 straps across the top or just 2 chains horse shoe around the edges. Ive seen coils come off trl in Birmingham Al, Memphis Tn, Gary In. too many times due to carelesness. I alsoagree with the fact that you can over do it, over lapping chains to the point you have no room for the binders is too many chains. I for 1 will not move a coil without a mimunium 4 chains but thats just me
