"Many things???" We aren't talking about many and everything that gets sold. I can still buy previous models of cars. Its and UNCOMMON business practice to quickly discontinue and remove a product from every store and immediateley cut support from it when its been out for a shortwhile. In the business world its called a RECALL and its announced through all media outlets. Rand McNally made no announcements...but they've made millions duping truckers to purchasing their ridiculously flawed, overhyped garbage....and then lo and behold they release another model. I've noticed you've discontinued The TND 500, 700, AND 710. The TND 510 came out at the same time as the TND 710. How come you all are still advertising AND selling it??? I guess thats the one I should've gotten that works!!! I remember Rand McNally advertising robustly those aforementioned failures. Stores ALWAYS reorder when something runs out. Its against common sense not to do so. They won't reorder something that their customers keep returning to them.

I knew it!!! You CURRENTLY aren't a trucker and you're on Rand McNally's payroll. I knew of this website YEARS ago. I just took the time to use it recently.
I wish you would've seen my reaction when my 400 dollar TND 710 faded to black on me 15 miles away from a delivery. I had to shell out the last bit of money in my bank account to get a Garmin. Its cheaper and more reliable. For 400.00 I should'nt be squeezing ANYTHING to make it work. I'm very unhappy with the TND 710 I have.....IT FAILED ME. Now I'm spreading the word as others have on this site to prevent CURRENT truckers from making a costly mistake like I did. Here is one question you still haven't answered from my previous post...Why are ther so many complaints against the TND 710 on this website???

Each model runs about a year before a new model is introduced. Cars do this yearly also, along with many other companies.

If an TND has been replaced by a newer model a news annoucement is made.

The TND is priced within the price range of other Truck Navigation Devices.

You have one year from the date you purchase it for warranty. Many items you buy only have 90 days limited warranty. Rand does not drop support the day you buy it, nor 90 days out. One (1) year - 365 days you have for the warranty.

The 710 was replaced by the next model the 720. The 510 did not get a newer model, so therefore it is still available.

Stores can reorder as many times as they wish till the stock is no longer available.

So, by me not driving a truck - this has anything to do with the support I give to this website? I would say the 3 years I drove gave me an understanding of what drivers go through and it only has made me a better person for it. I know what goes on on the road and therefore I take a lot of my free time to assist any driver that asks for it.

I cannot make you a happy person, but I can assist if you if you so desire. I would suggest you try what I have posted for others and if you are not happy with that and your TND is within the year warranty you can call Rand Support for a replacement.

    Thanks,
    mark

You've just coontradicted yourself with a newer model not being announced to replace the TND 510. Stock will be there as long as there is a demand for it. I have nothing against your THREE years of driving experience....eventhough new laws came out recently. My anger is against the product.....NOT YOU. The warranty you mentioned is attractive to me. I will give Rand McNally a call. This won't change anything. Especially since the obstacles CURRENT truckers encounter when calling for assistance whenever they give Rand McNally buzz...there are stories of that on here too. You responded so quickly. I bet you truly ARE doing damage control. I bet I'm not the only CURRENT trucker you are responding to.

I have a 510 that I picked up a year ago and it's still working. It even fell out of my old truck when I had to move, and it still works. As for me I can't complain, I like this unit. Maybe I'm just lucky, I don't know. I do keep a backup Garmin and Map in the truck just in case.

The 510 did not have a newer model this year. That was a company decision and so therefore the 510 is still the current model for the 5".

Reallly what has new laws coming out has to do with my ability to support the drivers with the TND? I can read and understand English. I can also go to the website and see what new laws have come out in regards to the 11/14/70. If any changes are in effect the TND will be changed to reflect the new laws. In fact if you notice the TND has added a "Driving Session" for the 8 hour rule - even though it is not in effect yet.

I have nothing to do with Customer Support as they are another department, but if you call talk like an adult to them and not scream and shout. Being nice will get you more respect. Simply let them know that your TND will not turn on.

I would suggest this first. Turn the 710 off for 12 hours unplugged. Then plug it in for 3 hours into AC. Then turn it on and once at the accept screen press the reset button on the side. Then slightly squeeze the USB end of the DC cord to provide a more snug fit. Wrap any excess cord around the bracket to take any stress off the cable.

If I happen to be on my computer at the time you post, then yes you will see a response. As I stated I am here on the thread from usually 8am - midnight 7 days a week, after hours I usually check this thread about once an hour. If a driver needs assistance then I will work with them no matter what the hour till they are up and running or we meet an impasse.

Giving support to drivers is not damage control. I know this is a odd concept for most drivers that someone in the business world that they own a piece of electronics from actually cares.

I have been on this site since the TND came out in 2009 giving support, so yes your statement is correct. I give assistance to a lot of drivers. Is this a crime? Drivers either find this site after calling Customer Support or simply doing a search. I have turned no one down for help.

Call Customer Support on Tuesday with your issue. Make sure you are within the one year of your purchasing it so they can issue an RMA. How they handle their RMA's is company policy.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I am on the side of unhappy customers - just kept replacing those 710s before 1 month return policy expires at TA. Vibration, improper power, who cares what the reason is? The product is an expensive but important tool for truck drivers and when it lets you down in the middle of a trip 3 weeks later it can get frustrating. For nonbelievers, I paid only 299$ for mine, and religiously replaced it each month for free about 4-5 times because it works great when it does. Thanks to Rand Lead Beta Tester anyways, it is tough to be Devil's advocate- will try snugging lol.

As always,,, on the 710 I do suggest the USB squeezing. You will find it helps.

    Thanks,

My 710 has been flickering dark to light for a few days and yesterday it froze up on me. I turned it off and back on but now it is frozen on the initial loading screen. I am not at home to plug it in to my computer. How can I fix this? Thanks.

Also I presse the reset button and it came back on, but still no further than the loading screen.

Of course it was a company decision not to replace the TND 510. I'd think Rand McNally was stupid to replcae something that actually works if they did!!! Where did I imply that I'm rude when I call customer service??? I simply mentioned issues CURRENT truckers experience when they call Rand McNally's customer service(THAT'S ALSO ON THIS SITE). I also simply mentioned new laws came out since you aren't a CURRENT trucker anymore. I'm very sure America appreciates your THREE years of driving experience delivering their goods.

I also noticed some more complaints about the hot garbage(TND 710) you keep defending. There are other outlets to inform drivers as well about the failures Rand McNally likes to dupe CURRENT truckers with. I will just associate your name "MARK" with the post I make to those other outlets. Perhaps I can continue my crusade to save CURRENT truckers from making the same mistake I made purchasing hot garbage from Rand McNally. Nice talking with you Mark!!!
